TV repair

Today, perhaps, there is a TV in every house. What if it broke? Firstly, do not panic, because very often you can handle repairs yourself. Let's talk about the different models of TVs, their possible damage and how much it is possible to repair TVs with their own hands in case of certain malfunctions.

Cathode ray tube model

Today, this type of TV is considered obsolete, but many still actively use it, and its microcircuits work exactly the same as more modern LCD TVs or plasma. Of course, the way the image is built varies greatly, but the elements themselves have many similar parts.

Accordingly, the repair of TVs will be carried out by the same methods, and therefore it should begin with these models.

Repair Recommendations

Self-repair of any electrical equipment is a very dangerous activity, therefore, observe safety precautions and the following recommendations:

  1. If the appliance refuses to turn on when the power outlet, plug and cable from the TV are working, check the switch.
  2. For the convenience of repair work, you can dismantle the main board. But keep in mind that even disconnected from the network, it can greatly shock.
  3. You also need to discharge the kinescope electrode. It is not difficult to find it - most often it is hidden under a rubber gasket. Work carefully, do not touch metal parts. The gasket easily clings to a conventional screwdriver, and the electrode is removed by swinging.
  4. The rod must be discharged to the chassis or ground. It is necessary to discharge the electrode until a characteristic crack stops appearing.
  5. Modern TV models are equipped with a single board, on which repairs are carried out. Part of the damage can be seen with the naked eye. For example, swollen capacitors.
  6. If the resistor deteriorates, it will turn black. This does not mean that it is burned, but indicates the chain where the damage is located.
  7. Frequent breakdowns are chips or small cracks in soldering parts. Because of them, contact may disappear. Therefore, even if it is not a matter of soldering, inspect all possible places, if necessary, solder the parts.

Consider the most frequent breakdowns.

Fuse

Any electronics must be equipped with a fuse. It saves microcircuits from power surges, and does not allow them to burn out. Therefore, if the TV does not give any signals, it is necessary to start the repair with a fuse.

Important! In order to further protect yourself from such problems, it makes sense additionally put network filters.

To do this, the burnt part must be removed and a 100 W bulb connected to its terminals, it has high resistance and will not allow the circuit to burn more.

Important! During normal operation, the lamp lights up, and after turning on the equipment - goes out. Of course, with such a modification, the device may work with errors.

Diode bridge

This part is necessary for rectification of current. If energy consumption increases sharply, one of the branches of the bridge will burn. Often these are two diodes.

You can check their performance using a multimeter. And before that, you should turn to the wiring diagram and understand where the current goes.

Important! Do not forget that in any circuit, electricity is directed from plus to minus.

Posistor

This part operates in the same circuit with an inductive loop that removes the voltage from the cathode ray tube.If the part is not working correctly, the screen will show a rainbow. Accordingly, the movement of electrons is disturbed, and the problem lies either in a burnt posistor or in a loop.

To test the parts, disconnect the circuit from the power supply and connect the power. If the light bulb that was lit earlier stopped burning, then the problem lies in these details.

A technique can be arranged a small test: without a loop, it can turn on for a short while in the operating mode. To find out which part of the circuit has burned out, measure the resistance with a multimeter. The resistance of the first two inputs on the posistor will be from 300 to 600 Ohms, the second - from one to five Ohms.

Important! If you replace the fuse with a light bulb, it is forbidden to keep the TV in working condition for a long time. The equipment is faulty and is under high voltage. A few seconds are enough to check it. Next, disconnect the device from the outlet so as not to damage the serviceable parts of the circuit.

What else could fail?

At the input of the power supply you can find:

  • capacitor;
  • transistor.

These parts are easy to ring with a multimeter for damage.

Important! If the diode bridge burned out, then the fuse could not protect it, which means that this is only a consequence of the reason, and the breakdown must be sought deeper.

LCD TVs

Repairing TVs of this type is in many ways similar to electron beam models. Of course, there are no posistors. But this only makes it easier to find out what the breakdown is.

Two types of LCD TVs can be distinguished, the repair of which will vary:

  • with discharge gas lamps;
  • with LEDs.

Gas lamps

They are very different from those used in ceiling lighting. These are small thin white stripes.

To pinpoint a fault:

  1. To check them, remove the back cover of your TV and disconnect the wires from the matrix.
  2. Next, take a working lamp and check how the technician behaves with it.
  3. If several lamps are used in the TV, you will have to remove the matrix, turn on the TV, find the broken lamp and replace it.

Important! After the repair is completed, and your panel is working properly again, check, following our tips, the correct position of the screen. This directly affects both your comfort and the convenience of perceiving pictures on TV, and safety for vision. Read all detailed instructions in a separate article. “TV viewing angle”.

LEDs

If you need to replace the crystal - think about how beneficial it is. Even in cheap models, the cost of a single crystal can reach more than half the cost of a TV. Therefore, you need to repair the TV only in extreme cases with expensive models.

Plasma TVs are still easier. The repair scheme does not differ from the rest of the models, but there are no posistors or backlighting, and accordingly there are no elements that require much less repair.

More breakdowns

In addition to the above, other breakdowns of your equipment are possible.

The horizontal bar is on.

With this problem, the TV catches a signal and you hear a sound. But in the middle of the screen, only a white stripe is visible. Most likely, the frame chip has broken. For diagnostics, call the microcircuit, and if it breaks, replace it with a new one.

No sound

If you have an image but no sound, the TV speaker may have broken. What we do in this case:

  • To diagnose a speaker breakdown, it is necessary to ring its contacts - the resistance should be from 4 to 8 Ohms.
  • It is also necessary to check how well the wires that go to the speakers are soldered.
  • At the same time, check the soldering of the board near the audio connector.

If you can not cope with the repair yourself, it is better to contact the service center, where professionals will help you repair the TV.

Remote control failed

The device of the remote control is very simple, and you can definitely do it yourself by fixing it.

You will need:

  • soldering iron;
  • replaceable keyboard;
  • the remote itself.

First, let's deal with the keyboard. During operation, it may become unusable, so disassemble the remote control, clean its contacts with alcohol and replace the keyboard. After that, the remote control must be assembled and checked.

It is also possible that the cause is microcracks on the remote control board. Inspect it carefully and solder it.

To summarize

Do-it-yourself TV repair or at least diagnosing a problem is a simple matter. But if you do not have at least basic knowledge about the work of electronics or do not know how to solder, then it is better to entrust the matter to a specialist.

Important! Remember that any equipment needs proper care. With regard to TVs, it is important to carry out wet cleaning in the room on time, to remove dust from the body. Our collections of methods and tools are also useful to you:

If the TV model is inexpensive - calculate the cost of repairs, it may be cheaper to purchase new equipment. During work, be sure to record all the steps you have taken - so it will be much easier for you to assemble a TV. Be sure to follow safety precautions for all work.
