Material selection

If you are sewing a skirt of such a style for the first time, then you are better off choosing a plain-colored fabric. Also, material with small ornaments may be suitable.

As for the type of material, then:

  • Half-sun winter skirts are made of dense material, such as velveteen or jacquard.
  • Summer options can be sewn from thin denim, silk, chiffon, linen or satin.
  • If a festive skirt is made, use velvet, satin or other expensive fabrics.

For further work you will need:

  • Fabric for sewing.
  • Threads matched to the tone and color of the material.
  • Sharp scissors designed for fabric.
  • Buttons
  • Ruler.
  • Non-woven.
  • Zipper or elastic fastener in case you need to sew a half-skirt on an elastic band.
  • Needles, safety pins.

Building patterns

To draw a pattern, you need to take only two measurements:

  • Dee (product length).
  • From (waist circumference).

Step 1

First, it is necessary to mark the vertex of the right angle A, from where the horizontal radius R1 will be measured horizontally and vertically. This point will be called the waistline. To find the radius, you can use the formula, which determines the quotient of dividing the circumference by 2 Pi.

Step 2

The second calculation will be related to the division of the waist by Pi (3.14). For example, with a waist circumference of 70 cm, Di was 85 cm. Radius R1 = 70 / Pi = 22.3.

To this result, Di must be added, taking into account the margin for folding the fabric. The result will be: 22.3 + 85 + 1 = 108.3. The magnitude of the large radius will be equal to R2. The points that we got on the waist line must be connected by an arc.

Important! Your pattern will be more accurate if you use a pattern.

The pattern of a half-skirt on an elastic band presented in the master class will be single-seam.

Step 3

When the material is prepared, you can go directly to the cutting. The fabric consumption will need to be calculated in this way: 2 Di + 2 waist radii + 10 cm. If the product model is sewn from a material into a cage or with an ornament, more fabric will be needed. Otherwise, the pattern will not match at the seams. This fact should also be considered if the skirt has a belt.

After the layout of the drawing, taking into account the share line of the material, folded in half, you need to add 15 mm to allowances. Then you need to start cutting the workpiece. The line along which the fabric is bent should never be cut. After cutting the workpiece, sewing a skirt is started.

Sewing technology

To sew a semi-sun skirt with your own hands for beginners, you will need to perform a certain algorithm, which will be presented below:

  1. Start side cuts, leaving about 18 cm to the waistline.
  2. Finish the edges using an overlock or zigzag seam.
  3. Sew in a hidden zipper.
  4. From the inside out with chalk, mark the points of stitching of the snake.
  5. Bend the edges, while pressing the seam allowances.
  6. Attach the open fastener to the folded edges of the seam so that the teeth retreat from the edge by 5 mm.
  7. Starting from the top of the product, you need to sweep, and then stitch 2 halves of the zipper.
  8. It is better to use the remains of material in order to cut out a belt. Its length must be taken equal to the length of the upper part of the skirt with a 3-centimeter increase in the fastener. On all sides, allowances for 10 mm should be left.
  9. Using non-woven, glue the resulting strip from the inside, unscrew and grind side sections.
  10. 3 cm to retreat from the edge, sweep the belt to the product with the front side, while hiding the inside allowance.
  11. Lay the machine stitch along the skirt.
  12. Make a cut for the button, carefully process it.
  13. Fold the hem of a half-skirt with a belt.

Important! To hem the hem is necessary only when the product sags on the shoulders with clothespins for about 1-2 days. Thus, the fabric in the seam area will stretch a little.

Practical tips

So that the half-sun skirt does not sit down after washing, the material you have chosen will need to be prepared or decatched in advance. For this purpose, it must be immersed in water, squeezed and hung to dry without twisting. Next, a slightly damp cloth is ironed.

Important! To moisten the wool fabric, many use a spray gun, which dries the material when unfolded.
