DIY shoe repair - outsole

If your shoe somehow bursts the sole, and the warranty period for the goods has already expired, then the shoes will most likely be attributed to the master. In most cases, professional repairs will extend the life of a month to a whole season, or more. But if you often spend time restoring any interior items in the house and your personal belongings, then, in principle, you can do the shoe repair yourself with the help of improvised means. The sole is also being restored exactly how - we will tell you now.

First way

In order to repair a cracked sole of a house, you will have to purchase the following materials and tools:

  1. shoe knife;
  2. emery cloth;
  3. degreasing agent;
  4. quick-drying superglue;
  5. threads and boot hook.

Is express repair possible in this situation? If damaged shoes without a special tread, with a flat sole, you can repair it yourself and wear it on the same day. This is done in this way:

  • Strip the surface of the sole with emery cloth.
  • Stand back about 5 cm from the heel and bend the sole so that the crack can open as much as possible.
  • With a boot knife, clean the remains of factory glue and other dirt inside, and with acetone or other degreasing agent, be sure to prepare a crack for applying new glue, remove all possible grease.
  • Next, glue the crack: apply quick-drying glue to its walls and press them against each other.

Important! Is it necessary to withstand the glue before gluing the crack, how long should the glue dry? It depends on the specific glue that you will use, so read the instructions carefully.

  • You have sealed the cracks, but you can’t use this shoe yet, otherwise it will split again. Therefore, it must be sewn up. Using a pencil, make zigzag marks straight across the entire crack.
  • Directly at the given marks, with the help of a shoe knife or a hand-held mini-grinder, make incisions with a depth of about 2.5 millimeters.
  • Now you need to sew a crack with your own hands according to these marks, laying the thread straight into the incisions. In the same hollows, hide the nodules from the thread.

Important! Flashing the sole is very different from everyday sewing, it is done with the help of a boot hook.

  • During the firmware, make not one stitch, but several at once. This is necessary in order to press the walls of the crack more tightly, and so that the upper layer of the thread protects the first from possible damage during contact with a rough surface, pebbles, glass and the like.

Done - the sole that has burst is now repaired, the shoes can already be used!

Second way

If your shoe has a sole with a tread, then express repair is not possible, because here you will have to put a sole on an already sewn crack. Professional shoemakers call it “prevention.” You also need to work with glue on the surface of the entire sole.

Additionally you will need:

  • winding material;
  • heating device - a powerful hair dryer or electric stove;
  • special shoe dryer.

The algorithm for repairing a cracked sole is almost the same as in the first case. But:

  1. First you need to remove the tread itself from the cracked sole in order to make it level, thereby facilitating access directly to the crack.
  2. After this, it is necessary to follow exactly the same steps from the 1st to the 5th, unless during the crack stitching in this case one layer of stitch will be enough, because additional protection will be pasted on top of it.

Important! Repair of shoes with building glue or universal “Moment” is impossible, because these products are completely not elastic. Shoemakers recommend using Desmokol glue or Nairit glue. They may well have other trade names, but their composition does not change, and that's what their shoe makers call them. The first is more suitable for polyurethane as well as rubber products, and the second is for repairing the sole of leather shoes.

We continue to make repairs:

  • Circle with a pencil the sole of the item being repaired on the outsole material and make a pattern.

Important! This material must necessarily be thick enough to compensate for the thickness of the tread that you cut from the sole itself.

  • Use glue to cover the sole, as well as the non-fat inside of your outsole. Without sticking, hold it for about 15 minutes. Then apply a second coat and wait another 15-20 minutes. After that, activate the glue, heat it with a hair dryer or the same plate to about 70-80 degrees.
  • While the glue is still hot, carefully press it to the sole, preferably with some hard and heavy object.
