DIY computer chair

There is no single pattern for a cover, since now every manufacturer makes some additions and changes to each model of an office chair for a manager. You will do the pattern yourself, based on the configuration of your chair.

Important! If you are sewing a case for the first time and doubt your strength. Take the old unnecessary fabric to sew the test case on a computer chair with your own hands, and acquire skills.

Tools and materials

First you need to prepare the fabric and tools that you need:

  • fabric - choose more tightly so that it does not wear out too quickly, color and texture - to your taste;
  • centimeter and scissors;
  • pencil, marker, chalk;
  • pins, needles, threads;
  • zipper, elastic;
  • tracing paper, graph paper, plastic film (not new, but clean);
  • sewing machine.

Fabric consumption calculation

For the correct calculation of tissue consumption, to sew a tension cover on an old computer chair with your own hands, you need:

  1. Measure all parts in turn (width and length), in centimeters.
  2. Record the readings on a piece, adding 2 cm to each allowance for each indicator.
  3. Calculate the amount in width and length separately.
  4. Based on the width of the fabric, calculate the right amount by adding another 20 cm to the overlap.

A few tips to help you make a case

Before you start directly to work according to the instructions, take note of a few practical tips that will facilitate your process and allow you to more accurately make a cover on a computer chair with your own hands.

Tip 1

If this is your first time doing your own pattern, then make sure it is correct. It is necessary:

  1. Transfer the pattern to an old sheet or duvet cover.
  2. Cut and sweep.
  3. Put the resulting cover on the chair.

Important! Using pins to adjust your pattern, bringing it to the ideal.

Tip 2

The fabric for the cover must be washed in the recommended mode, dried, ironed, and it will shrink. It will not be necessary to add centimeters in the future.

Tip 3

In order not to get confused in the patterns, it is better to immediately sign the individual parts. For example: “the inside of the back”.

Tip 4

Material that is very strewed must be treated with an overlock or zigzag stitch.

Method 1 - Step-by-step sewing plan

To begin with, we describe a method that even a novice tailor can handle. You will not spend much effort and time on it. And the result will please not only you, but also your household.

Disassemble the chair into its components:

  • The back.
  • Seat.
  • Armrests.

Make a pattern for each piece:

  1. Measure the part and draw on the wrong side of the fabric or on tracing paper.

Important! Having made a drawing on tracing paper, you will get a more accurate copy of the cover.

  1. Cut and transfer to fabric.

Important! It is necessary to pay attention to the direction of the threads on the fabric so that there are no distortions. Remember to make seam allowances.

  1. Make allowances around the circumference of 9 cm.
  2. Cut out fabric parts.

Important! In doing so, take into account the angles and curves of the parts.

Sewing a cover

So that the cover on the computer chair with your own hands fits perfectly on the base of the chair:

  1. We process the edges of the parts with an overlock or a zigzag stitch.
  2. From the inside, we bend 1.5 cm inward, pinning with tailor pins or sweeping with a thread.
  3. We sew in an even line, stepping back from the edge of the hem 3-4 mm. You must still leave a gap of 2-3 cm to retract the elastic.
  4. We draw the right amount of elastic into each part and fix the joints.
  5. We put on ready-made covers for each element of the chair.
  6. Putting a chair.

Method 2

A seamstress with experience not only in sewing, but also cutting, can cope with this method. We will tell you in detail about the nuances in the cut of the cover, tight on the zippers, which will be a single whole (the seat, back, and side parts are all sewn into a single cover).

Important! Your cover will repeat the shape of the chair, and the seams on it will also repeat the seams on the chair. We sew two zippers in the side seams and one on the bottom. With their help, you will easily remove the cover.

Make a pattern

In this case, we need an exact pattern. To make it faster, we will need polyethylene, somewhere 1-1.5 m. Next we need:

  • take a piece of film and attach it to the part of the chair, limited by seams;
  • align the film so that it lies as evenly as possible;
  • fasten with pins near the seams;
  • mark the contours at the seams with a marker (on the film).

Important! You can check the symmetric part right away if you drew it correctly. Just fold in half - ideally the edges should match. If the differences are small, then circle around the middle contour. And if they are very different, it means that the pattern was re-shot incorrectly, you need to redo it.

The chair has a rounded shape. Of course, a problem will arise - the film will not fit snugly, respectively - it will not lie flat. Therefore:

  1. It is necessary to straighten it on level ground, securing with pins.
  2. Pull the free part into folds, securing with pins, so that the film lies flat.
  3. Sweets can be stitched with tucks or folds as you wish.

Important! Save the pattern - you can sew more than one cover for your favorite chair.

Determine the amount of tissue

In order not to buy excess fabric, which can be by no means expensive, and the cover on a computer chair with your own hands turned out to be beautiful, you must correctly perform all measurements of the canvas. To do this,%

  1. Place patterns on the floor or carpet across the width of the intended fabric.

Important! When unfolding, take into account the direction of the shared thread, allowances for seams, and the specularity of some parts.

  1. Measure the resulting length and add 20 cm to the shrinkage of the material.

Important! Buy material in specialized stores. Be sure to ask at what temperature this fabric can be washed. Do not take flocked fabrics - they will come off during washing.

Fabric cutting:

  1. Fold the fabric on a flat surface.
  2. Place the details of the pattern, pin with pins.
  3. Make 1.5 cm seam allowances.
  4. Circle with a simple pencil.
  5. Cut out.

Your details are ready. We proceed to the next stage.

We sew a cover on a chair:

  1. We sweep the middle inner part with side elements.
  2. We try on the decor of the chair, thoroughly examining whether the cover fits tightly on the computer chair. If in some places the fabric will puff, then you need to remove the defect with the help of tucks.
  3. We remove our details, make adjustments, symmetrically from both sides, gently bend the fabric to the edge.
  4. We sew the seams with the machine in the following sequence:
    • sew the seam on the machine with a straight line;
    • cut off 0.5 cm from the seam allowance from the edge of one side;
    • bend the cut allowance uncut, stitch along the seam seam, backing 2-3 mm.

Important! On the front side, the delay will look good when all the lines are symmetrical.

  1. We collect the external elements of the back and sides in the same sequence, only at the seams of the joints of the central part and sides you need to sew lightnings.

Important! The zippers need to be sewn in departing from the edge 3-5 cm, because when connecting the inner and outer sides of the cover there will be a very thick and ugly seam.

  1. We sweep the internal and external parts of the cover, try on all the elements - they should follow the contour of the chair.
  2. Stitch 2 times on the same line.
  3. We build the same way as the side seam.
  4. We put it on a chair and draw a line along the fold of the lower part. We remove, fold in half and cut off the unnecessary part, leaving 1.5 cm for seam allowances.
  5. We plan a fragment of the seat and the inside of the back.
  6. We try on below - you need to evenly distribute the folds of the middle of the back, stab with pins, then remove and draw the tucks with a pencil.
  7. We grind the tucks, cut them off, departing from the line 1 cm, we also do stitching on the front side.
  8. Sew the zipper into the bottom.
  9. We cover the bottom of the resulting cover, step 1 cm and sew.
