While there are no problems with the water supply, hardly anyone is thinking about the condition of the water pipes and other parts that make up the water supply. But if water begins to flow out of the tap in the thinnest trickle, and the pressure is significantly reduced, immediately there is a desire at all costs to find the cause of the problem and solve it. Most often, to eliminate an annoying malfunction, it is quite enough to clear the filter in front of the device for accounting for water consumption from clogging. It gradually accumulates debris and dirt, which leads to a gradual decrease in duct obstruction, up to its complete loss. How are water filters cleaned? - We will deal with this in this article.

What is a filter?

The device for rough cleaning must be installed at the entrance to the apartment or house after the valve in front of the water meter. Its purpose is to hold large debris that can damage the impeller of the water meter.

Despite the fact that rough cleaning of the water mass does not save from silt and fine sand, the filter creates an obstacle for large pieces of calcareous deposits and rust.

Important! If the water supply is in good condition, it does not clog even after 5 or more years of operation. However, the state of water, to put it mildly, is far from ideal, therefore, such protection is more than necessary.

Cleaning a straight or angled filter

To work, you need to prepare the following tools:

• Gas key.
• Adjustable wrench or ring spanner 17 (19).
• Capacity filled with water for washing.
• Rust remover.
• FUM tape (it can be replaced with tow).

Important! The filtering device is not often cleaned, therefore, in most cases, the plug sticks to the housing tightly (especially if a gasket made of paronite is used). Therefore, you can’t do without preliminary preparation.

The filter for rough water purification in front of the meter is cleaned in the following order:

1. Turn off the valve located on the hot or cold water inlet.
2. Be sure to check that there is no water in the tap, and the valve itself is working.
3. Apply WD-40 rust remover around the cap. This partially solves the problem of limescale and scale.

Important! If there is no special tool at hand, it can be replaced with kerosene. Saturate the fabric with kerosene and wrap a cloth over the joint. You have to wait about 5 minutes.

4. Unscrew the cap with the key. Make the first movements sharper to get rid of the caked connection.
5. Remove the cylindrical mesh and rinse it well in a container. A metal brush helps get rid of silty deposits. After that, set the grid to its original place.
6. Screw in the cap, securing it with the FUM tape.
7. Having opened the valve at the inlet, make sure that the plug does not leak.

Important! If a paronite gasket has been used, warming up the plug with a burner or boiling water helps a lot. To prevent boiling water inside the pipe, you need to make sure that the filter is free of water and open the tap in the mixer.

Cleaning the filter cartridge

This device is most often installed with autonomous water supply in private homes.With a centralized water supply, such a filter is not effective. Instead, an angle filter and an additional device for fine water purification (after the water meter) are used.

How to clean the filter in front of the water meter? To clean the cartridge filter mechanism, you will need:

• Spare cartridge - if not, stock up with a container of water to rinse the old cartridge.
• Bucket.
• The key to the filter.

The procedure for cleaning is as follows:

1. Turn off the valve on the water supply. Make sure that there is no water in the tap. Be sure to place a bucket under the filter. After you remove the flask, excess water will pour into the bucket.
2. Using a wrench, unscrew the clamping nut and remove the flask.
3. Rinse the cartridge in a water tank or replace it with a new one.
4. Reinstall the flask.
5. Use a wrench to tighten the compression nut.

Important! You can only reuse a reel-type cartridge. The foam cartridge cannot be washed. It is immediately replaced with a new one.

Installing a filter in front of the water meter or replacing a faulty device with a new one

Timely cleaning significantly extends the life of the filter. Consider how to replace a faulty filter with a new one.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

1. Turn off the pressure of hot and cold water in the apartment.
2. Open all taps to pour out the remaining water.
3. Unscrew the filter with a wrench.
4. Remove the remains of an old sealant in the place of fastening.
5. Install a new filtering device, wind a new insulation tape.
6. Open the water pressure to make sure that the connection is correct and that there are no water leaks.

Important! The cartridge in the cartridge-type coarse hydraulic filter changes in a similar way.
