What can be wall plates?

Plates for room decor can be used in a wide variety of:

  • There are special ones designed specifically for decorating walls. They have special fasteners on the back (a hole, a loop of twine, a metal ring). Usually they depict cities and stories from life, before they were taken from travel, as now fridge magnets.

Important! There are wall dishes with landscapes brought in the middle of the twentieth century from Germany, the Czech Republic. This is almost an antique, which gathers dust somewhere on the mezzanine of my grandmother, and can take its rightful place in the renovated apartment.

  • For wall decor, ordinary plates and saucers with cute patterns or even just white can be used.
  • Now, at the time of the prosperity of various types of needlework, it costs nothing to create a masterpiece with your own hands - to paint this vessel with acrylics or to decorate using decoupage technique. Making dishes with your own hands is not difficult. You can create panels on a plate with your own hands from a simple element of tableware: use a glue gun to decorate a saucer with coffee beans, cloves and cinnamon sticks. Such a saucer composition will look cute in your kitchen.

  • Their sizes can also be varied: from tiny to huge.

How to attach a plate to the wall? Possible ways

Mounting decorative plates on the wall can be done in several ways. Before starting work, you should familiarize yourself with the main options and choose the right one for yourself.

Nail fastening

Plates can be fixed on a nail driven into a wall:

  1. If the plate is specifically designed to decorate the walls, then it will already have a hole for mounting, or a loop (metal ring), for which it is hung on a nail.
  2. For simple dining plates, you will need to choose a mount yourself:
    • You can drill a small hole with a drill for tile.
    • You can buy special paws with springs designed specifically for such purposes. This type of fastener with hooks encompasses the product from several sides and is fixed to the nail by the loop. A similar device can be made by yourself. We will talk about this a bit later.
    • There are also forged plate fasteners, they are larger and more noticeable.

Important! Before buying ready-made mounts, measure the diameter of your plates, as they are different.

Fastening with special Velcro

Decorative plates and saucers can be fixed using a special plate mount on the wall, in the form of round Velcro with a loop (for example, Command Velcro). They are selected for the diameter and weight of the product, and perfectly cope with their task.

Important! First, you sculpt such an adhesive disk to your plate, and then hang it on a nail by a loop.

How to hang a plate on a wall without nails?

Decor in the form of wall plates can be fixed on the wall and without a nail on glue.

Important! In this case, glue “liquid nails” or “cold welding” is used.

Special shelves

Anyone who is fond of this kind of interior decoration collects decorative dishes. Such people, in order to simplify their mounting on the wall, you can purchase special racks with narrow shelves. They have either a narrow slot for convenient fixation of plates, or stuffed slats along the shelves that prevent them from falling. It could just be a hinged plate shelf.

Important! Usually a similar “exhibition” is placed in the kitchen, dining room or other rooms, the interior of which is decorated in the style of Country, Provence, Vintage, Classic.

Self-fix mounting problem

How to fix a plate on the wall, if there is no way to buy ready-made fasteners? The following are considered in detail the simplest and most effective ways to solve this problem.

We use special glue

How to hang decorative plates on a wall without nails? The answer to this question has already been voiced above. Now we will take a closer look at the “nailless” method. To do this, you need glue “liquid nails” or “cold welding” (Poxipol glue).

Procedure:

  1. The plate must be thoroughly washed from dust and dirt, dried.
  2. Using a sharp object (awl, knife, nail), make on the part of the bottom where the glue will be applied, several scratches - for better adhesion (bonding materials to each other).
  3. Degrease the scratched area with, for example, alcohol.
  4. Apply glue to the treated area, attach a block or piece of woolen dense fabric.
  5. After drying with the same glue, attach the plate to the wall.

Important! In this case, you won’t need to beat holes, but the product will also be outweighed. Therefore, think carefully and calculate everything in advance.

We use electrical tape and paper clips

Another way to hang a plate on the wall, if there is no hook, use paper clips and electrical tape.

Procedure:

  1. To a clean, dry and fat-free plate in the right place, apply a clerical large paperclip, fix it well at the bottom of the dish in several rows of electrical tape.

Important! Clips can be replaced with a loop of twine or braid, and electrical tape - with a medical plaster. Glue the electrical tape or patch very carefully so that there are no air bubbles, otherwise - it may come off and your decor will collapse on the floor.

  1. Now hang the product on a nail for this paper clip or eyelet.

Important! In this way, it is advisable to mount only small and light objects.

We use epoxy resin:

  • You can fix a metal ring, a loop of rope or wire on the back of the plate using epoxy resin or “cold welding”.
  • A glue gun can also be used, but only for small light saucers.
  • After gluing the fastener, you should wait several hours for the glue to seize and harden, and then hang the finished product on a nail.

We make metal mounting clips for wall plates

In order to independently mount such decorative plates on the wall, you will need aluminum or copper wire with a cross section of about 2 mm.

Important! You can take a piece of a two-wire wire, cut it and remove the braid.

Next, we consider an example of fasteners for plates with a diameter of 23 cm.220

Procedure:

  1. Cut two pieces from the wire: 25 cm (top) and 23 cm (bottom).
  2. Bend a shape in the form of the letter M from each cut.The legs should be 8 cm, and the middle at the top: two at 4.5 cm, and at the bottom - two at 3.5 cm.
  3. Bend 1 cm in the form of hooks with round-nose pliers at the ends of the legs.

Important! These bent tips can be painted with manicure to match the color of the product, as they will grab the edge of the plate from the outside.

  1. Take two pieces of tight linen gum 15 cm each, sew the ends tightly so that two rings come out.
  2. Now put both “Ms” on top of each other, only turn the top upside down. Connect the tops of the letters with rubber bands.
  3. Now grab the plate on top and bottom with hooks on the legs of the mount, check for reliability.
  4. At the top “M” (which is now “W”), slightly bend the center to make it easier to hang on a nail.

Important! For your wall plates, calculate for yourself the required amount of suspensions, increase or decrease the length of the “legs”.

Making such a suspension does not take much time and it comes out very cheap, unlike the store counterpart.

Important! Some craftsmen advise making claws from office paper clips (4 pieces) and connect them together with an elastic band. Grip the top of the gum with a nail.

How to hang plates beautifully on the wall in the kitchen? Proper decor

Plates for wall decor can be different - from vintage Meissen porcelain dishes to ordinary plates with flowers. But in order for them to become a decoration of the room, and not vice versa - only spoil the overall interior and attract too much attention, you need to know a few design tricks.

Combine the colors:

  • Plates must match the color scheme of the interior, but at the same time, do not merge with the color of the walls.
  • They can be a “bunch” for other furnishings. For example, you can hang a blue plate on the wall so that a lone blue floor lamp (pillow, vase) has a pair and does not fall out of the general plan.
  • Plates can be a bright color spot in the interior, for example, red in a beige setting, chocolate in white and the like.

Theme and style

Several plates in the same room should be linked together by the same theme and color scheme.

Important! Do not place on the same wall at the same time a pastoral scene with a geometric pattern.

The appearance of the decorative plate must match the style of the interior. For example, for the Classics gold plates, white and white-blue porcelain, calm tones, flowers will be appropriate. For high-tech, monochrome plates (black, red, white), possibly of a square shape, are suitable.

Important! There should not be many plates, 2-3 is quite enough.

The arrangement of plates relative to each other

The layout of several plates is a lot:

  • They can be arranged symmetrically - even horizontal or vertical rows.
  • You can lay out a geometric shape from the plates - a square, a circle, a rhombus, a rectangle, and more.
  • If your interior is not classic, and you want to place a composition of many plates on a large empty wall, then you can lay them out in the form of a wave.

Important! On the Internet you can find many various schemes of beautiful placement. The main thing - do not rush. Before you make holes in the wall with nails, make a preliminary layout: cut circles from the paper to the diameter of your plates (just turn the plate over a sheet of paper and draw a pencil around it). With paints or colored pencils, schematically apply the desired color to the paper blanks and with the help of masking tape place them on the wall. Only when everything suits you, fasten real plates to the wall.

Choosing the right place

Most often, the decoration in the form of plates:

  • decorate the headboards in the bedroom;
  • place them over the dresser in the living room, near the mirror in the hallway;
  • located in the piers between the windows, on the shelves of the buffet in the dining room, on the hinged shelf in the kitchen and even in the bathroom.

There is a place for such beauty everywhere.

Sometimes decorative dishes are inserted into frames. The plate is mounted on a cardboard or plywood substrate and in this form becomes similar to the original picture.

Important! Frames can be made by yourself from the slats and bars, or you can order in a framing workshop.
