Materials and tools necessary for work:

Wire.
Sandpaper.
Hammer.
File.
Wooden handle.
Electric sharpener.

Plantar hook manufacturing scheme:

For work, prepare a spring wire with a diameter of 2.5-3 mm.
It is necessary to rivet one edge of it with a hammer, but this should be done evenly. The riveting section should be no more than 10-15 mm, but note that the tip will still have to be finalized on an electric sharpener or file. Thus, you will reduce the diameter of the wire by half its thickness.
Clamp the workpiece in a vice, then at a distance of 5-7 mm from the end face of the edge that we riveted in the previous step, make a cut at an angle of 45 degrees. It is necessary to reach half the rod.
With a thin file, process all edges and sharp edges.

Important! If this tool is not at hand, you can use fine-grained sandpaper.

Then check the quality of processing with the help of shoe thread, it is necessary to hook it and hold it in the place of cut, then pull it with an effort, simulating sewing. If the thread does not tear, then - everything is fine and you can proceed to the next step.
Sharpen the tip with an electric sharpener or file. As a result, you should have a smooth transition from a flat to a rectangular section at the end.
Using sanding paper, remove any scratches.
Put the wooden handle on the rod.

Important! Using such a hook for shoe repair, you, of course, cannot insure it against breakage, since it all depends on the intensity of its use and the quality of the selected wire. But for homework, such a tool is enough.

Awl for DIY shoe repair

In modern building stores, such a simple tool as a boot awl is becoming less common. It must have a convenient handle and head for clamping a temporary tip or a special nozzle, hook or shoulder blade. Having at hand everything you need, you can independently make such a tool that will last you more than one year, in just ten minutes.

For work, you will need a set that includes:

A piece of sandpaper.
Wooden handle.
A bolt 4 cm long with a diameter of 8 mm with a cap of at least 4 mm.
A bolt 1 cm long with a diameter of 3 mm.
Adjustable wrench, corresponding in size to the cap of the bolt.
Drills with a diameter of 6 and 2.5 mm.
Drilling machine or drill.
Tap and knob 3 mm.
A spoke from a bicycle.
A bar or a grinding machine.

The awl manufacturing procedure looks like this:

Take the pen and work it well with sandpaper to remove all the influxes, cracks, ribs.

Important! Remember that the awl is the most important part. Any burrs may damage your hand during operation. Therefore, carefully twist the handle wrapped in paper.

Take the bolt, drill two holes in the cap with a 2.5 mm drill. One hole should have a depth of the bolt itself, the second - about 2-3 cm, but you can not drill to the end. In this case, the second should be perpendicular to the first. If you didn’t succeed in doing everything clearly perpendicularly, do not be discouraged, because the main thing is that these two holes do not intersect.
Then drill a hole in the handle with a diameter of 6 mm and a depth equal to the height of the bolt. With light strokes, amass a bolt on the handle, then use a spanner to tighten the bolt into it.
On the cap of the bolt, cut the thread with a tap.
Cut the necessary piece of steel bar from a bicycle spoke, and grind it with an abrasive stone. Insert the finished rod into the handle, then squeeze it with a bolt.

Important! If necessary, you can make a whole set of interchangeable hooks, then refine the awl with them, saturate the handle with linseed oil or paint it with paint.
