How to make a telescope with your own hands at home?

This article is dedicated to people keen on astronomy. Many people quite unfairly consider the telescope an overly complex instrument. There is nothing complicated in its operation, believe me! You will learn how to assemble a telescope after spending only a few hours on it. The magnification range from a home-made device is 30-100 times. So, how to make a telescope with your own hands at home?

You will need:

  • Whatman paper.
  • Paint (it can be replaced with mascara).
  • Glue.
  • Two optical lenses

How to assemble a telescope at home - the lens manufacturing procedure:

  • Fold the sheet of whatman paper with a 65-cm pipe. The diameter of the pipe is slightly larger than the diameter of the magnifying glass.

Important! If you use glass from glasses for the manufacture of the astronomical apparatus, the diameter of the folded sheet will be no more than 60 mm.

  • Fill the inside of the sheet with black.
  • Secure the paper with glue.
  • Using jagged cardboard, attach the magnifying glass to the inside of the paper tube.

We make an eyepiece

Glass from binoculars can perfectly serve as an eyepiece of an astronomical device. To assemble the telescope with your own hands:

  • Make sure the lens is firmly seated inside the tube.
  • Now, using jagged cardboard, connect the smaller tube to the larger diameter pipe.

Important! A device for observing celestial bodies is, in principle, ready. However, it has one minus: the image of the objects turns upside down.

  • To correct the situation, add another 4-cm lens to the eyepiece tube. Rainbow staining, or diffraction, can be removed by setting the diaphragm in place of focus. The image loses a little in brightness, but the “rainbow” disappears.

Naturally, the question arises of how to assemble a telescope with a 100x magnification. This is a more serious device in which the moon is literally visible at a glance. It can be considered with the help of this device Mars and Venus, which will seem like small peas.

You can achieve a 100-fold increase by using lenses with a diopter of 0.5 more than with a 30-fold increase. The length of the pipe is 2.0 m.

Important! To prevent the two-meter pipe from bending under the weight of magnifying glasses, special wooden supports are used.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in the design of the device that every self-respecting astronomer has. Therefore, you will definitely cope with the task and you can assemble such a system yourself.
