One of the most popular methods is decoupage, which allows you to both decorate and update the old surface of the table. This technique allows you to give a second life to old things and give originality and style to new ones.

Materials for work

You can decorate a table in this technique if you use such materials:

• With the help of special napkins for decoupage, there are a lot of them, you can choose for every taste.
• Instead of napkins, use drawings, maps, notes, photographs, postcards, old newspapers and magazines.

The decoupage technique itself is simple to implement, but when it comes to large items such as countertops, the decoupage process can be called quite complicated. A beginner will have a hard time, but if you are determined, then you will surely succeed.

Important! You can even start by training on a small subject, for example, decorate a wooden cutting board, well, or something else.

Training

1. First you need to prepare the surface on which the decor will be applied. The preparation process depends on the material from which the table is made. Particleboard can simply be washed with detergent. The wooden surface must be sanded with sandpaper.
2. If you are updating an old table that already has cracks, then they must first be puttied.
3. Now you need to pick a picture and make markup.
4. Cut out the necessary parts of a napkin or other paper image that you decide to apply.

1. Napkins are simply glued to the countertop, trying not to tear them. The pattern must be smoothed so that no air bubbles form.
2. Paper products are placed in warm water with the pattern down, allowing them to soak for a minute.

4. Then the thinned drawing is smeared with glue and attached to the countertop. The tabletop also needs to be greased with glue. For this purpose, it is best to take PVA glue.
5. The transition between the tabletop and the pictures is decorated with paint of a suitable shade.
6. The image is allowed to dry and the surface is varnished for decoupage in several layers. Each layer should dry well.
7. If you want to give the table a vintage look, it can be artificially aged with craquelure varnish.
