Preparatory work before laying the skirting board

Before you learn how to lay the baseboard on the floor, you need to be thoroughly prepared. Before installation, you need to carry out certain work related to removing the old baseboard, cleaning the surface of debris, buying new material and the right tools.

But the main thing is to correctly calculate how many meters of the baseboard you will need, and you can do it this way:

  1. Measure the perimeter of the room - it is better to do this on the basis of the act of BTI.
  2. Subtract the length of the doorways from the total perimeter.
  3. Add one and a half meters to carry out all the connections, round the resulting amount up.
  4. The result should be reduced by 2.5 times, because it will be easy for you to understand how many planks you need to buy.

Important! If the baseboard will have a non-standard length, then you need to divide by the appropriate size.

Even before the baseboard is installed, you need to carefully consider how high it should be. This parameter is determined taking into account the height of the ceilings and the total area of the room. That is, if the ceiling in the room is too high, then it is better not to take a low baseboard.

Important! The hue, as a rule, is selected in accordance with the tone of the design of the walls. But designers have a different opinion and love non-standard solutions in order to deliberately highlight the perimeter of the room with a contrasting baseboard. Which technology to give preference to is up to you.

Do-it-yourself installation of a skirting board on a laminate

During installation, you need to remember that the baseboard is a floating coating, and it does not attach directly to the base of the floor. During operation, it constantly changes its characteristics under the influence of fluctuations in the level of humidity and temperature in the room. Therefore, it is advisable to fix it to the wall, and not to the floor.

As previously noted, the most popular is the plastic baseboard, which can be installed even by an inexperienced master. The main thing is to adhere to a given sequence of actions and stock up on a set of the above tools in advance.

And now we’ll take a closer look at how skirtings are attached to the laminate:

  • First you need to make markings and determine the points where the baseboard will be attached to the wall:
    1. It is necessary to attach the bar to the wall, mark its height, a place for fastening.
    2. These points should be evenly spaced at a distance of about 50-65 cm.
    3. The very first point should be located at a distance of 5-10 cm from the edge of the baseboard.
    4. In this case, you need to retreat 2.5-3 cm from the inner corner and 0.3-0.5 cm from the outer corner.
  • Begin laying from the corner, performing it clockwise.

Important! Since the models are collapsible and solid, the specifics of the installation will largely depend on what comes with the baseboard - decorative plugs and dowels. The kit should have inner and outer corners. Functional models having a special channel for cabling are very convenient.

  • Planks can be fastened with screws, clips, dowels or glue. It all depends on which skirting model you choose:
    1. if the walls are smooth, then you can use liquid nails for installation;
    2. in other cases, it is better to use screws and screws.
  • When installing on clips, drill holes at marked points according to the length of the dowel. Then the dowel is inserted into the hole and a clip is attached to it. A skirting board is put on top of the clips.
  • Collapsible models can be reinstalled if necessary. They consist of a core and a base. In this case, the base is fastened with dowels to the wall, and a decorative strip is put on top of it. The joints of individual strips can be quickly and reliably connected with special elements.
