Materials and Tools

• Stamp for a line. With it, you can immediately make a series of identical holes. The tool is like a small fork. Putting a punch to the skin and hitting its handle with a hammer, we get an even row for decorative stitching.
• Synthetic threads. Durable threads of contrasting or the same color as the material are suitable for designing a wallet. Replace them with a waxed cord, which is just as durable as synthetics. Before work, the cord is rubbed with a piece of beeswax and a thread is ready for work.
• Hardware. These are various magnets, clips, rivets, buttons for decorating the edges. Decorative elements are matched to the tone of the material and can imitate bronze and gilding.
• Thick gypsy needle with a wide eye. For sewing, select needles labeled “for leather”.
• Embossed stamps. With their help, wallets are decorated with an embossed pattern. For hot stamping, stamps are heated on fire.
• Paint. Designed for tinting edges and slices. The color is selected in the color of the skin. For the restoration of damaged areas, a special primer for the skin is used, and then paint is applied.
• Sandpaper. With its help, round the edges and reduce the thickness of the material. For work, take small paper marked P400.
• Wooden sticks. For ironing parts, applying glue.
• Rubber glue. It is necessary for fixing the edge and protecting the internal compartments from water.

Important! In some models, do-it-yourself purses from leather are created on the basis of a pattern that does not need to be stitched. Parts are glued together and stitched with decorative stitching.

Which skin to choose?

Veal, goat (chevro) is considered the best, and pork is the least suitable. She quickly gets wet and not too beautiful. Still skin is divided into:

How to work with skin?

There are tricks to making wallets. This material is different from fabric and requires a completely different approach. The most important thing in the work is the exact pattern, which is made of thick cardboard or wood.

Important! Thin paper patterns will wrinkle and cut out a flat part will not work.

Operating procedure:

1. We lay out a piece of leather on a solid and even surface - linoleum, a special mat.
2. The template is transferred to the front side of the material.

Operating procedure:

1. We mark a rectangle with a size of 20 * 27.5 cm, divide it into 3 parts with a width of 8.5, 9.5 and 9.5 cm
2. We prepare 2 cardboard inserts 8.5 * 19 cm in size and one 7.5 * 19 cm. We seal them with padding polyester.
3. We glue cardboard with padding polyester and leather, bending the edge by 5 mm.
4. At a distance of 2 cm from the edge, make two slots and fix the magnet button.
5. Getting to the lining. For her we use the suede side of the skin. We cut out the part and fix it with seams over the edge.
6. Glue the lining to the cardboard.
7. We make an inside pocket. To do this, cut the partition from cardboard measuring 19 * 8.5 cm, and from leather 20 * 17 cm with an allowance of 5 mm from each edge.
8. Fold the skin in half and tighten the cardboard part.
9. We make the front valve 20 * 9.5 cm in size, seal it with cardboard with a synthetic winterizer.
10. At a distance of 1 cm from the edge we mount the second half of the magnet.
11. We make pockets for business cards from 5 shreds of leather measuring 7 * 8 cm. We spread them one on top of the other, glue them, sew them along the edge.
12. Then we sew them to the upper flap of the wallet.
13. It remains to make wedges and collect a purse. Cut 4 rectangles, 3 * 8.5 cm.
14. Sew them to the inside pockets and cover.
15. Make a fold at the bottom of the part and, tucking it in, sew the bottom of the wedges to the cover.

Important! Replace genuine leather can be artificial. It is not so strong, but it is easier to work with it.
