Knitted rug

To make a do-it-yourself rug, you will need the following:

  • Thick cardboard.
  • Scissors.
  • Threads of different thicknesses.
  • Black marker.
  • Decor (optional).

The sequence of steps for the manufacture of a knitted decorative product:

  • Cut out a circle from cardboard, the size of which corresponds to the size of the future rug.
  • Draw lines on this circle. Start with a line running vertically through the center of the circle, then horizontally. Next, draw a circle in quarters, and also in halves, etc.
  • After you get a circle with many segments, make 2 cm cuts at the edges of the circle (where the lines end).
  • Start tying a cardboard circle with thread, passing it through the cuts.

Important! On the front side of the circle everything should look neat, but on the wrong side the pattern can be chaotic - it's okay, because we only need the front side.

  • When you walk the thread along all the available lines, tie it to a knot.
  • Prepare all the threads of different thicknesses and start knitting in a spiral, starting from the center of the circle. Alternating each thread, poke over the “spoke”, then under it.

Important! First, you can thread the thread immediately through 2 knitting needles.

  • So knit to the edges of the cardboard. As a result, you should get a beautiful rug that can be decorated, for example, with pompons.

Rug from old terry towels

Soft and original do-it-yourself carpets can be made even from old unnecessary terry towels. In order to create such a flooring, you will need the following:

  • Old terry towels.
  • Scissors.
  • Sewing machine (thread and needle).

Sequencing:

  • Cut towels into strips. In our case, the strip width is 3-4 cm.

Important! For convenience, you can fold each towel in half, cut into two halves. Fold each of the halves again in half and cut into fold lines, etc.

  • Fold together three strips of different colors and fasten them with threads (stitch the ends). From these strips, start weaving a “pigtail”. After weaving is finished, again stitch the pigtail.
  • Weave a few such “braids”, then connect them into one long strip with a thread and a needle or a sewing machine.
  • Begin to fold the resulting long strip into a spiral, fixing it with a thick thread.
  • Coil the braids to the required size of the mat. At the end, fasten the entire structure and turn it over so that the seams are at the bottom.

Mat “French bracelet”

In order to make a do-it-yourself rug, you will need the following:

  • Old fabric in two colors (you can use old t-shirts and shirts).

Important! In our case, the width of each patch is 25-25 cm, and the length is 3 m. If you use old T-shirts, you can fasten several pieces with a needle and thread.

  • Needle and thread.
  • Scissors.
  • Duct tape.

Sequencing:

  • Lay out five strips of different colors in the order you want them to look on the future product.
  • Next to the five strips located, lay another five strips in mirror image.
  • Take the first strip (this will be your working strip), tie it to the strip located next to it.
  • Now again take the “working” strip and tie it with a knot with the next. So keep doing until you get to the middle.
  • From the opposite side, begin to do the same, tying the other strips with another “working” strip.

Important! On the opposite side, knots should be tied in a mirror image.

  • When the two “working” strips meet in the middle, tie them together.
  • Repeat the same with subsequent rows.

Important! Choose the length of the rug yourself.

  • Start one more mat with the same colors. After that, connect them together with a thread and a needle.

Important! If desired, you can make several of these rugs, and then sew them into one large carpet.

  • Cut off excess parts at the end of the product, and fasten the edge with threads so that it does not spill.

Wine cork mat

Corks from wine bottles are a wonderful material for creating a variety of crafts for the home and garden. One useful option is to make a do-it-yourself rug.

Important! Cork bark almost does not absorb moisture and bacteria do not multiply in it, which is why this material is perfect for rooms with high humidity, that is, bathrooms.

To create such an original product, you need the following:

  • About 180 wine corks.
  • Glue.
  • A cut of some water-repellent material as a basis (a rubber mat for yoga or for a shower, soft thin plastic or rubberized fabric will do).
  • Sharp knife.
  • Cutting board.
  • Large sandpaper.

Sequencing:

  • Collect and prepare wine corks. Wash them thoroughly in warm, soapy water.

Important! To eliminate red wine stains, soak plugs in a solution with bleach overnight. Then wash and dry thoroughly.

  • Cut each cork lengthwise into two even parts, for which use a sharp knife and a cutting board. If the slices are not very smooth, you can smooth their edges with sandpaper.

Important! For safety and convenience, it is better to cut the cork not on its side, but holding it in an upright position.

  • Lay the cut corks with the slices down so that they will be located on the future rug - this way you determine the size of the product.

Important! You can create a pattern yourself. It can be, for example, zigzags, straight rows, chess.

  • Cut out a rubber base of the required size.
  • Use glue to stick the cork to the base. At first it is advisable to stick them around the perimeter, and then move to the central part. Excess glue should be removed immediately with a cloth.
  • After finishing work, leave the product to dry.

Important! To make it completely waterproof, treat its surface with sealant. If you use such a rug in the bathroom, it is advisable to dry it in the sun at least once a month for prevention.
