Features and advantages of the material

The cost of massive wood furniture is quite high, so many owners prefer to make home-made interior items for a country house.

Wood is the best and most environmentally friendly material for the manufacture of furniture in a summer cottage, thanks to the following set of qualities:

  • Lumber is available anywhere in the country, and the board and timber are widely represented on the shelves of construction stores.
  • The price of lumber is relatively low.
  • Wood raw materials are malleable even to simple tools.
  • The material is environmentally friendly, natural, does not contain harmful impurities and does not emit volatile toxic chemicals, toxins. Everything is exactly the opposite - boards, boards, especially coniferous, give off a pleasant forest aroma.
  • The texture and color of wood is distinguished by its unique beauty, and is very suitable for a summer cottage atmosphere. The material is in perfect harmony with any suburban landscape.

The most suitable types of wood for the manufacture of furniture:

  • Oak.
  • Ash.
  • Beech.
  • Pine.
  • Nut.
  • Larch.
  • Linden and alder - more suitable for the manufacture of parts that will not experience increased load.

Important! It should be remembered that wooden furniture will be used in extreme conditions: in the rain and the scorching sun, under the influence of insects, bacteria, fungi spores. Therefore, special attention should be paid not only to the choice of wood species, but also to the finish and treatment of all parts with an antiseptic.

Advice:

  • First, impregnate all wooden parts with an antiseptic complex with an antifungal effect, and then paint, open with varnish.
  • For furniture use only dry wood - boards or logs. Suitable for work and hemp, branches, logs. Furniture made of rough wood with minimal processing looks stylish.

Important! A relatively new material for the manufacture of garden furniture is wooden pallets or pallets. They are mainly used for transportation of building materials. From ready-made pallets, you can easily make a bed, an armchair and a sofa. For a bed frame, it is enough to connect several pallets together, and for a sofa or an original chair, 2 standard pallets are enough.

Before using pallets, they must first be prepared: clean, wash, sand, and then wipe with a damp cloth, primer, varnish or paint.

Today, the Internet is full of drawings of various options for wood furniture. It can be:

  • Stationary and folding models.
  • Single and double chairs.
  • Children and adults furniture.
  • Rocking chairs.
  • High and low designs.

Of course, within the framework of one article, we cannot consider each model separately, but to give a few tips for choosing is quite:

  • Choose only those models whose design you fully understand. In the process, you must fully understand what and how to do, what tools are needed, how to work with them, whether you yourself, without the help of specialists, can master this design.
  • When choosing a furniture model, take into account the conditions and the place where it will be operated. For a summer house or a garden, for example, a rocking chair with your own hands and a folding model are perfect.

Useful Tips

Do-it-yourself chairs can be used in the house and on the street. For them to last as long as possible, listen to the following tips:

  • If the furniture is used in a humid climate, for example, near a river or at sea, select finely porous wood for its manufacture. Larch, oak and persistent sound areas of coniferous wood are suitable. For a drier climate, you can use any species of wood, or even take beech and hornbeam parts of transport pallets or boxes.
  • If the tree will be used outdoors, then be sure to cover it with antiseptic primer. If the furniture is in the house, then a primer is not needed.
