Do-it-yourself plywood double bed

Before you start the construction of a bed of plywood with your own hands, you need to take care of the availability of necessary materials and tools.

Materials:

• Wooden boards of good quality, 4 cm thick or more.
• Plywood (2-3 sheets) with a thickness of at least 1.5 cm. It is these sheets that represent the standard size of this material.
• Ready beam or wooden legs. At will, they can be made with your own hands.
• Special wood glue.
• Paint.
• Brushes of different widths: wide and narrow (for hard-to-reach spots).
• Coarse and fine sandpaper.
• Set of screws for fixing the structure.
• Bolts, nuts.
• Washers for bolts.
• Wooden corners to strengthen the frame of the sleeping bed.

Instruments:

• Tape measure or building meter.
• Electric drill and drill for her.
• A set of keys.
• Screwdriver.
• Jigsaw or cutter for processing wooden parts.
• Glue for lumber.

Working process:

• We give the surface of the plywood smoothness with sandpaper. We pass along it first with a coarse-grained skin, and then with a fine-grained one.

Important! Pay special attention to the ends, which should be perfectly even and smooth before starting to assemble the bed with your own hands.

• We make a frame. We cut longitudinal ribs from 18 mm plywood, the height of which is 150 mm. The legs should be 3 mm shorter than your mattress. We calculate the amount of material used, based on two stiffeners and sidewalls every 40 cm. The frame has two transverse ribs at the edges (the length of the rib is equal to the length of the mattress + 5 mm).
• We assemble the butt end-to-end, since the thickness of plywood allows us to do such a job.
• We drill plywood and tighten it with screws.

Legs:

1. We assemble these parts from the same material - from 18 mm plywood. We cut out the L-shaped wooden leg and stretch it to the transverse and longitudinal ribs of the previously installed frame using short screws.
2. We fasten the end face with long screws.

Headboard and sidewalls:

• The sides of the bed are again made of plywood. We pull the sidewalls not only to the longitudinal ribs of the bed frame, but also to the transverse ribs.

Important! To fix plywood on longitudinal ribs we use short self-tapping screws, for transverse ribs - long ones.

• Using the above actions, we mount the headboard and pad in the legs. Follow these recommendations: the height of the head over the bed frame should be between 20 and 40 cm.

Flooring

We cut 10 mm plywood to the size of our sleeping bed (referring to the frame, excluding the sidewalls). We do this work with two plywood sheets, making sure that the joint is perpendicular to the longitudinal edges of the previously made frame. We connect the plywood sheets, taking into account the step of 25 cm. Next, we grind again all the flaws and irregularities. And we cover the surface of the bed with paint in several layers, not forgetting to put the enamel on the completely dried surface of the previous layer.

DIY plywood baby bed

Plywood can be safely used to make a baby bed. We will tell you about how to make a bed of plywood with your own hands. In this master class, we will design a bed-machine, which effectively complements any children's room.

Step-by-step algorithm of actions:

• We take plywood, which is considered environmentally friendly material, or use natural wood. We make markings on plywood according to the drawing and dimensions of your baby's mattress.
• We cut the blanks of the berth from plywood using a jigsaw.
• We stick a special edge tape, carefully leveling the edges.
• We use small aluminum corners as fasteners, into which we make holes for screws.
• We fix the previously cut sidewalls with metal corners from the inside to the plywood sheet, which acts as the bottom under the mattress.
• We overturn the crib and the corners to the sides, the height of which should be such that the child could not fall from the bed during sleep and active games.
• We make the head of the bed from one sheet of solid plywood. Here you can include all your imagination: to decorate the upper part, cutting it out in a wave-like fashion, or use another interesting concept. We attach it to the top of the bed with screws. The head should be high enough, even and as comfortable as possible.
• We mount two drawers at the bottom of the crib. To do this, we attach an additional transverse bar to the bottom of the bed from the bottom, on which the boxes can be freely moved.

Important! In such a device, it is very convenient to store not only bedding, but also children's things and even toys.

• We color the bed at our discretion. To paint the main part of the children's car, we used black and white paint, and for the headlights - yellow.

General recommendations:

• Sometimes it happens that plywood does not have a laminated coating. Therefore, before joining the boards, it is necessary to cover the canvas with stain or paint, and then wait until it is completely dry.
• Cover each part with drying oil before you start assembling the bed with your own hands. So you can paint hard-to-reach spots, thereby further strengthening the entire design of the berth.
