Round chair

While developing the interior, everyone is trying to create an interesting design for their apartment, to think it through in such a way that it is not only multifunctional, but also individual. Therefore, furniture should be as creative and original as possible. Currently, stylists pay great attention to the original execution of furniture that can not only decorate the apartment, but at the same time perfectly combine with many styles. An unusual version of a round chair is suitable for a children's room, looks interesting in the living room, is able to add a twist to a country house, therefore it is in great demand.

Important! It is a frameless chair or a chair in the shape of a round bag that is the most successful option for a children's room. Such a chair is characterized by basic advantages such as comfort, softness and lightness with which the body shape is adopted. In addition, the furniture is safe - if a child suddenly falls, then the probability of injury is excluded.

The modern market presents a huge assortment of such chairs, which have the shape of not only a bag, but also eggs and pears, but such furniture is very expensive. The design of such a product is not very complicated, if you wish, you can independently make a frameless chair.

Materials and Tools

Before proceeding with the manufacture of a frameless chair, you need to determine the size and color scheme of the furniture. In addition, the design decision should be taken into account so that the shade of the fabric matches the single interior of the apartment:

  • If the furniture is made for a children's room, then in this case it is necessary to consider children's topics. The material can be different - and in a flower, and polka dots, and stripes, and with images of cartoon and fairy-tale characters printed on fabric. The main thing is that the material is bright and fun.
  • If the furniture is made for the living room, then the color scheme of the chair should match the shade of the walls or existing furniture.

To make a fireplace chair with your own hands, you need to prepare the following tools and materials in advance:

  • Durable material from which the inner filler bag is made. Can use water repellent polyester, inexpensive satin, fabric for the manufacture of workwear or material for sewing mattresses.

Important! The quantity depends on the size of the future product. So, with a chair height of about 1.2 meters and a diameter of 0.9 meters, approximately 2.5 meters of fabric with a width of at least 1.2 meters will be required. Such a piece of furniture will support a person's weight up to 100 kg. If you need to make a larger bag, you will have to use 3 or more meters of material.

  • Roll of graph paper or coordinate paper for drawing drawings.
  • Material for making the outer case. The amount of tissue is determined by a similar principle to create an inner bag.

Important! Experts advise using a flock for the children's room, which does not cause allergic reactions, is pleasant to the touch, not subject to sun exposure, and has water-repellent properties.

  • A simple pencil for drawing patterns.
  • Two zippers of the appropriate size. On the inner bag, the zipper is sewn in to add filler, which after some time loses its shape. Thanks to the zipper on the outer cover, at any time you can remove the cover for cleaning and washing.

Important! Instead of a zipper, you can install a durable Velcro.

  • A ruler whose length should be more than a meter.
  • Crayon or a small piece of soap.
  • Scissors.
  • Sewing pins.
  • Needles.
  • Reinforced threads, due to which they make strong and reliable seams, other durable threads can be used.
  • Filler for the inner bag. Such chairs can be filled with various components, such as cotton wool, straw, synthetic winterizer, hay, buckwheat husks, rice or pieces of cloth. All of these fillers are quite expensive and have many disadvantages.

Important! Expanded polystyrene is considered to be the best filling option, which is available in the form of balls, the diameter of which varies from 0.5 to 1 cm. If there are balls of a smaller diameter, the furniture will become very heavy, if the diameter is large, then the balls will not be able to evenly distribute inside the cover, as a result - furniture will lose its appeal and comfort. For this chair you need 1.5 kg of expanded polystyrene or 250-300 liters. As a filler, try to acquire quality material.

  • Sewing machine.

How to choose upholstery material?

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the chair, you must select the upholstery material. Furniture fabric is significantly different both in cost and in physical properties.

Consider the most popular materials for the upholstery of a chair with do-it-yourself ears:

  • Velours. Fleecy and velvety material, which in appearance resembles faux fur.
  • Flock. This fabric is a bit like velor, furniture developers recommend using this particular material.
  • Shenill Natural fabric that is durable and practical. Synthetic fibers are present in the composition of the material, so that the surface of the material does not roll.
  • Jacquard. The material has increased strength, is easy to clean, but there is one drawback: the fabric structure consists of synthetic fibers, so loose loops contribute to the formation of puffs.
  • Artificial suede. The fabric is fleecy and durable, does not fade in the sun, is easy to wash and wash, and is able to “breathe”.
  • Imitation leather. The fabric is characterized by strength and wear-resistant properties, while the material is characterized by the presence of beautiful embossing.
  • Tapestry. This is a natural and very expensive material, the distinguishing feature of which is visible weaving. Threads of all colors are woven into the overall structure of the fabric, while forming beautiful patterns and patterns.

Stages of creation

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the chair, it is necessary to draw a pattern on graph paper.

Important! If a piece of furniture is created for a children's room, then when constructing a pattern, you can reduce the details while maintaining their proportionality with respect to each other. Similarly, you can increase the size of future pieces of furniture if necessary. After that, we cut out the details of the pattern and transfer them to the prepared material.

How to make a round chair with your own hands:

  1. We lay out the fabric for the inner bag on a horizontal surface and attach the pattern to it using sewing pins.
  2. With a piece of soap or chalk along the contour, we outline all the details.
  3. We remove the patterns, add 1.5 cm along the contour for allowances for the seams.
  4. As a result of the cutting procedure, we get 9 parts, such as 2 bottom blanks, 6 side wedges, 1 upper part.
  5. In exactly the same way we cut out the details for the outer cover.
  6. We sweep away all the details, at the same time we first fasten them together with sewing pins, after which we manually flash them.
  7. We mark out the zippers that will be between the wedges from the bottom blank to the top part.
  8. After basting, all the details with a sewing machine are stitched with reinforced threads.
  9. Delete the basting.
  10. For greater strength of the seams, sew another line or use an overlock.
  11. We turn out the manufactured covers on the front side.
  12. We proceed to filling the inner bag with polystyrene foam.

Important! Since polystyrene foam is electrified and scatters at the slightest movement, when filling it, it is necessary to remove small children and four-legged pets from the room, in order to avoid accidental ingress of balls into the respiratory tract.

  • Prepare the vacuum cleaner in advance if you need to collect scattered balls.
  • To backfill polystyrene, we use a garden watering can, a paper funnel or a plastic bottle with a bottom cut off.

Important! The inner cover should be filled with filler about two-thirds of its part, so that the chair can adapt to a sitting person.

  • We put on an external cover.

Egg shaped item

Armchairs made in the shape of an egg look very original. Designers have come up with such pieces of furniture for a long time, but so far they have not lost their relevance and are considered fashionable. For the independent manufacture of such a chair, a certain skill and elementary skills are required.

Preparation for work

For the manufacture of an English chair with do-it-yourself ears, the following tools and materials should be prepared in advance:

  • relevant material;
  • old newspapers;
  • fitness ball of the largest size;
  • plastic pipe;
  • salt, water, flour;
  • putty;
  • sandpaper;
  • a hairpin whose thread corresponds to 1.6 cm in diameter;
  • MDF;
  • matte white paint, preferably in the spray can;
  • nuts
  • foam rubber having a thickness of about 40 mm;
  • white epoxy paint in spray cans;
  • roulette;
  • Scotch;
  • glue spray;
  • hacksaw or jigsaw.

Stages of creation

The basis for the manufacture of such a chair is papier-mâché. Consider the process of making an egg-shaped chair in more detail:

  • On the ball we determine the line of the central section.
  • Glue a strip of adhesive tape along this line, which should be with a slight offset and be the border of papier-mâché.
  • We cut the prepared newspapers into strips about 4 cm wide.

Important! Strips should not be made too wide, because when glued, an uneven surface is created.

  • We prepare a paste, which includes 1 glass of flour and 2 glasses of water, after mixing the ingredients, add a small amount of salt, which prevents mold. The prepared composition should be similar to low-fat sour cream or yogurt.

Important! It is preferable to prepare one portion of the paste; if necessary, you can further prepare the desired composition.

  • We fix the ball in a large bowl or basin.
  • We put a paste on each side of the paper strips and glue the ball within the limits outlined by tape. First, all strips should be placed parallel to each other. When the first layer is pasted, go to the next one, which we lay out perpendicular to the placement of newspapers.
  • After covering the surface of the ball with a layer of paper, leave it to dry for 12 hours.
  • If the product is made for an animal, then repeat the striping procedure up to 6 times, if the chair is designed for a child, then you have to paste the ball surface up to 10 times.

Important! Each applied coat should dry for about 12 hours.

  • While the item dries, we proceed to the manufacture of the base. On a sheet of MDF, draw a circle with a diameter of 40 cm and cut it out. At the center point of the circle, drill a hole corresponding to the diameter of the threaded nut. We insert the nut into the hole and screw the pin. We put a piece of plastic pipe on the hairpin.
  • The height of the finished chair is adjusted by changing the height of the pipe.

Subsequent moments

You can’t pull the ball out of papier-mâché until the future product is processed with putty. Consider the process of processing putty chair frame with your own hands:

  1. We put putty on dried newspapers, while the layer of putty that covers papier-mâché and the leg of the future chair should correspond to 5 mm.
  2. Blow out the ball and pull it out.
  3. We cover the inner part of the product with putty, while the inner surface is covered with a thicker layer than the outer one.
  4. Leave the item for 24 hours to dry.
  5. After drying with sandpaper of a large section, we polish the outer part of the product to a smooth state.
  6. If voids have formed during the operation, we cover them with putty and leave them to dry completely.
  7. Grind the surface with fine sandpaper.
  8. If the putty layer has become as smooth and rounded as possible, we proceed to painting the product.
  9. We cover the surface with matte paint, using several layers.
  10. Leave to dry for a day.
  11. Apply epoxy paint and leave to dry completely.
  12. We mount the leg, for this in a prepared place we drill a hole with a diameter of a threaded rod.
  13. We install the prepared base on the seat, sawing off the excess end of the stud.
  14. Using a nut, fix the leg.

Foam packing and seat upholstery

To make the seat comfortable and soft, it should be trimmed with foam rubber:

  1. Using a tape measure, measure the circumference of the resulting egg.
  2. The resulting number is divided by 5.
  3. On the prepared strip of foam rubber with a width of one meter, mark the calculated length five times, after which we build five isosceles triangles.
  4. We cut out the figures and lay them inside the egg, while the vertices of the triangles should be in contact with each other.
  5. On the paper we transfer the outlines of the openings, which resemble the petals formed between the triangles.
  6. Five petals are cut out of foam rubber.
  7. We sew petals and triangles together.
  8. The formed spherical shape is cut along the axes of the petals into five identical parts.
  9. We lay out these details on the material, circle along the contours and cut out five blanks, not forgetting to add 5 cm for allowances for the seams.
  10. We glue the fabric to the foam base, glue all the blanks together.
  11. We turn to the seat upholstery, for this we apply glue to the inner surface of the egg and put a spherical shape of fabric and foam.
  12. We take the rope of the desired length, while the length corresponds to the circumference of the egg hole. We wrap it with a piece of fabric and paste it on top of the upholstery to close the seam.

How to make a round bean bag chair with your own hands:

  1. Copy the pattern you like, increase its scale and transfer it to the fabric.
  2. To make the lower and upper covers, we carry out separately - a large lower bottom, a small upper bottom, six wedges made of fabric.
  3. We cut the wedges and proceed to sewing the bag, while leaving a small area not sewn up.
  4. Sew both bottoms.
  5. After the upper one, we proceed to tailoring the lower case according to exactly the same principle.
  6. From the appropriate material we cut out the blanks of the application, which we configure on the cover.
  7. Sew a zipper into one of the wedges.
  8. Two-thirds of the inner cover is filled with foam and rammed.
  9. We put the inner cover into the outer one.
