Is it possible to disassemble the laminate and assemble it back?

Typically, a laminate lasts about 15-25 years. The class of material characterizes its life. But from various unforeseen circumstances, the laminate is not well protected. Already many have decided to base their choice not only on the basis of the main qualities of the laminate: resistance to moisture and abrasion, impact resistance, appearance and environmental friendliness. Now it is customary to think about the maintainability of the flooring. No one is immune from a defect on their floor. It can be: scratches, dents, chips and severe abrasions. What to do? How to solve the problem? Is it possible to disassemble the laminate and assemble it back with my own hands? Let's get it right.

Do I need to disassemble the laminate?

Serious defects in the coating indicate that it is time to start dismantling. But is it possible to disassemble the laminate and assemble it back so that it is suitable for further operation. Before answering, we will get acquainted with the most common “problem” cases:

  • Paul creaks. This may be due to the fact that the installation was not carried out as carefully as necessary, here you have the result.
  • Swelling and obscure formations. Such a case is widespread, since moisture can penetrate under the laminate and destroy the material.
  • And some just want to move, but they don’t want to leave their own laminate flooring. Why not take it apart to put it in another room?

Important! Sometimes it happens that only a few lamellas break. Experienced owners will not throw away excess material after installation and will remove from the pantry several spare boards. Partial repairs are very easy - remove the old panels and replace them with new ones.

Preparation for work

How to remove a laminate? In fact, installation is not the most difficult thing. Modern materials are beautifully assembled and disassembled. There is an expression: “Break - do not build”, but the dismantling of the laminate should be carried out with special care, even if only a few “cells” need to be replaced.

Flooring joints

To begin with, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the type of boards used. So far, there are only three types of floor covering locks:

  1. Lockless (adhesive). This floor is assembled with glue. In other words, parts of the material simply stick together. Such a laminate cannot be removed and used again.
  2. Lock panels. On one side of such a panel there is a spike in the form of a protrusion, and the other side is equipped with a special groove. With a few light hammer blows, such “cells” are easily connected. A “signal” of readiness gives a characteristic click during assembly.
  3. Click is the most common connection system. It is here that the easiest way is to carry out repeated operations on the laminate. The panels are simply placed at an angle of 45 degrees to each other and fall to the floor. And this is how the lamellae clutch through this system.

Partial installation

Is it possible to disassemble the laminate and assemble it back? Of course, but we will begin our acquaintance with this procedure with one “small” work. " If you have already decided to deal with the dismantling of defective boards, then follow the following instructions:

  1. Using a marker, indicate the desired range of work.
  2. Using a jigsaw, saw off unsuitable parts. At least 5 millimeters should be left from the edges to prevent damage to the lock connection.
  3. Using tools, hook the blade and remove it.
  4. Prepare a workpiece with the same geometric dimensions, sand the edges and coat them with some kind of sealant. Now it is necessary with special care to place new parts in place of the old ones.
  5. Remember to remove excess sealant.
  6. To replace just a few planks, you must first dismantle the baseboard, and only then gently pry and lift the extreme lamella in order to disconnect the joints of the castle system. Remove the lamellas from the cover until you reach the “broken” parts.

Important! We recommend numbering the panels. This advice is due to the fact that many very often make mistakes during assembly. If the “cell” has not been cut, then the numbering can be neglected and simply mounted in any order.

We remove the laminate completely

Well, first you have to do the dismantling of the skirting boards.

Important! You will not be able to maintain the integrity of the laminate lamellas if it is based on the principle of adhesive or lock-joints. Just remove the panels one by one from the floor.

But with modern and technological Click-locks, things are very good. This type of flooring can be removed without difficulty, maintaining the perfect condition of each lamella, which will play into the hands of subsequent work.

Important! It’s customary to start disassembling from the wall where you last completed the installation procedure.

Just lift the extreme panel until it clicks, which will tell you when the lock opens, then release the panel. Carry out these manipulations with all parts, not forgetting the numbering, about which there were a few words above. Numbering will facilitate the installation process in a new room and significantly speed it up.
