DIY oven mitts

Women who spend a lot of time in the kitchen want all the accessories to be practical and beautiful at the same time. A kitchen potholder is one of the most used items in the kitchen. Of course, you can regularly update them by purchasing products with a new design in the store. But why not make do-it-yourself oven mitts from old jeans? The work is quite simple, but, as the given master classes confirm, the result is very nice. Why jeans? It's simple: it is a natural and dense material. Outwardly, it looks more than good, does not stick to heated surfaces. The fabric does not crease, it is perfectly erased. All in all, some benefits.

Simplest option

To sew a practical tack of jeans with your own hands, you will need:

  • Two squares carved from denim in the size of 190x190 mm.
  • One square thick fabric for tacking. Size is slightly smaller than the main squares.
  • Cotton threads for tying. The best option is “Iris”.
  • Knitting hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Pen or pencil.
  • Awl.
  • Ruler.
  • Pins with beads.

Procedure:

  1. Mark the jeans squares on the wrong side. Move a centimeter away from each side and draw lines parallel to the sides of the square.
  2. Then apply centimeter markings on each of the lines.
  3. Do the same with the other square.
  4. Now fold the two jeans squares together, with the front parts to each other, connect them with pins.
  5. The next step is to attach the sealing fabric to the inside of one of the jeans squares.
  6. Using an awl, make holes right on the centimeter marks. This is useful in order to tie the product with threads.
  7. After that, remove the pins and fold the jeans squares face out.
  8. Using the hook, starting it in the holes punctured with an awl, start tying the product so that 3 loops fall into each puncture.
  9. The next row is single crochet.
  10. The third row is the “shell” pattern.
  11. A loop for hanging the finished product is formed in the corner at the end of tying and consists of 20 air loops (chain). Tie the loop with half-crochet or single crochet.

"Butterfly"

This is a slightly more complex, but very beautiful option. The butterfly-shaped mitt is not just practical, it will decorate the kitchen interior. In addition to denim, you will need cotton and a synthetic winterizer. The synthetic winterizer in this case plays the role of a heat insulator.

Procedure:

  1. Make a butterfly-like pattern on a piece of thick paper. Transfer the contour of the tack pattern from old jeans with your own hands to all three fabrics.
  2. In total, 3 blanks of 3 types will be obtained. Add all 3 parts together. If there are any irregularities, trim them.
  3. Make 3 similar blanks along the contour of the wing, and then 3 more, only in mirror image
  4. Sew the two-winged blank at the edges.
  5. Make a fringing for “single-winged” details from a contrasting natural fabric. To do this, cut a strip of about 1 cm. First sew it “face to face” details. Then wrap and sew on the other side.
  6. Sew on the “wings” decor. Well, if it will be from the same material as the edging. However, the options may be different. Use a zigzag stitch for attachment.
  7. Fold one two-winged and two one-winged blanks, sew them along the edge.
  8. Trim along the perimeter of the tack using the oblique bejing method.
  9. Cut a strip of fabric, sew it and sew to the finished product in the form of a loop.

Another original kitchen accessory is ready! Such a product not only looks great, but is also very convenient to use. Any housewife who knows how to handle a sewing machine will be able to make such a nice product.
