Method 1. Repainting

Repainting is the easiest way to upgrade furniture. Such restoration allows you to get rid of shallow scratches and changes the boring color of the countertops. If there are more serious defects on it, it is better to choose a different method. Particleboard is a specific material, which means that it must be painted according to a certain technique.

Important! Particular attention should be paid not only to the painting technique, but also to the material, because the final result of the restoration will depend on their quality as a considerable measure. You can easily find out everything you need from the materials of our website:

Now you can proceed directly to the restoration of furniture from particleboard:

  • Before starting work, it is necessary to disassemble the furniture: remove all the doors and accessories. You need to paint over each detail separately - so you will carefully work through all the joints and protect yourself from the formation of sagging.
  • Now you need to get rid of the old coating. If the piece of furniture was previously painted, remove the coloring composition using special solvents (in extreme cases, you can use sandpaper). It is much more difficult to dismantle the coating when the facades are covered with a special varnish.

Important! Remove the old layer with a spatula, while warming up small areas with a construction hairdryer. Do not use a regular hair dryer - it does not heat up the surface too much.

  • Next, you need to process the facades with an emery cloth of medium hardness.
  • Now it is necessary to put a putty on the cleaned surface (the layer should be thin), then - after drying, again process with sandpaper.

Important! All parts should be perfectly smooth. Pay particular attention to corners and visible spots on furniture.

  • It is more convenient to apply the coloring matter using an airbrush, however, you can do with an ordinary large brush or roller. In order for further restoration to satisfy your desires, apply the coating as carefully as possible, avoid the formation of any gaps or smudges.

Important! If the defect was noticed after drying, this area must be treated again using sandpaper and coated with another coat of paint.

  • When all the parts have dried, you need to cover them with 2-3 layers of water-based varnish and leave until they are completely dry. Now updated furniture needs to be assembled.

Method 2. Using a self-adhesive film

It often happens that an old but reliable cabinet is thrown away or taken away only because its design is outdated. Remember, any piece of furniture can be given a new life, you just need to update your furniture with chipboard with your own hands in this simple way.

For further work, the following materials should be prepared:

  • Adhesive tape.
  • Sharp scissors or knife.
  • Furniture layout - decorative self-adhesive tape.
  • Iron.

This restoration can be done even by an inexperienced master. The main task is the acquisition of quality materials (first of all, it concerns films for pasting furniture), in addition, you need to study the step-by-step algorithm as accurately as possible and follow all the recommendations below. A step-by-step scheme will help you navigate in further work:

  • First you need to disassemble the piece of furniture that will be restored - to remove everything they did.
  • Thoroughly clean all surfaces. Here you can even use a dishwasher dissolved in water.
  • When the surface dries, all facades must be wiped with a weak vinegar solution. The described treatment will help to remove a thin grease film that interferes with the adhesion of the plate to the self-adhesive film.
  • Cut the film.

Important! Be sure to leave a margin of approximately 6 mm on all sides. These surpluses allow in the future to avoid alterations.

  • Now it's time to start the restoration of furniture from particleboard. Before gluing, the surface to be treated must be slightly sprinkled with water - this helps to lay the film more evenly.
  • Smooth using a dry, soft cloth. It is necessary to move from the center to the edges, while removing the formed bubbles, drops of water. If the air bubble cannot be adjusted, it must be pierced with a thin needle and smoothed. This technique ensures a good fit of the film to the piece of furniture being processed.
  • Iron the facades with a cooked iron through a soft cloth.

Important! Iron should be heated to a moderately hot temperature.

  • Stick on the layout, then replace the furniture handles with new ones.

Important! If the furniture is not old yet, and individual scratches have appeared on it, then it is quite possible to solve the problem by covering the problem areas with decorative decorations. This approach will slightly refresh your furniture and give freedom of imagination. Check out our workshops:
