Care for natural wood furniture - the basic rules

Among the variety of household chemicals, furniture care products occupy only a small part, but no one calls into question the need for these products. Wooden furniture is very sensitive to changes in humidity, exposure to sunlight and any temperature changes.

To maintain the beauty and durability of interior items, we recommend that you observe the following rules:

  1. Furniture must be used in accordance with its functional purpose.
  2. Do not place the headset closer than one meter away from radiators or other heat sources.
  3. The air temperature in the apartment should not be lower than +15 C, and relative humidity - 65%.
  4. Assemble the furniture in full accordance with the assembly schemes (drawings). If necessary, to assemble complex products, attract qualified specialists.
  5. Protect the surface of the decor and its structural elements from any mechanical damage.
  6. During operation, do not use excessive force when opening doors, drawers or other moving parts.
  7. Ensure proper operation of the movable elements by adjusting the hinges and lubricating the guide rails with paraffin or a similar, non-aggressive product.
  8. Transport the headset only when unassembled.
  9. For furniture care, use special cleaning and polishing agents.

Features of wooden furniture

Wood is a porous material that has the ability to absorb and release moisture. With sudden changes in the level of humidity, the furniture either swells or shrinks, which can be indicated by poorly closing doors or, with difficulty, a chest of drawers. In addition, the wood splits, cracks appear on it and, in the end, wood insects can threaten it.

If you provide proper care for wooden furniture, then it will serve you for a long time and can still please your grandchildren.

Furniture CareFollow these care tips:

  1. Make sure that sunlight does not get on the furniture made of wood, as they can change the color of wood, whitish spots and stains appear on the headset, and polishing may crack.
  2. Do not store furniture in rooms with wet floors, as well as in the attic and in the garage.
  3. Protect furniture from spilled liquids and the effects of heat from hot cups, glasses, and plates. Use coasters and trays.
  4. Make sure that water from a vase with flowers does not spill onto the headset. Spilled liquids should be removed immediately with a paper towel or soft cloth.
  5. Do not leave wet items or rags on a wooden surface, as the furniture does not tolerate moisture.
  6. Keep paint and other chemicals away from furniture.
  7. Wipe off dust on the headset regularly with a soft cloth dampened with an antistatic agent.
  8. When wiping the dust, do not move, but raise objects standing on the surface so as not to scratch the polish.
  9. Lift furniture by its strongest part. For example, a table for legs, a chair for a seat. Do not pull furniture on the floor if you want to move an item. This loosens the legs.
  10. When choosing a care product for wooden furniture, pay attention to the coating (type of varnish) of the surface.
  11. For painted surfaces, use a neutral solvent-free product.
  12. Do not use the tool to update polishing more often 3-4 times a year, since an excess of protective substances can cause a film to appear on the surface, which will be difficult to get rid of.
  13. Use a paste-like wax to mask small cracks.

Furniture Care

For the care of wooden furniture produce three types of products.

Polishes

The principle of operation of this product for the care of wooden furniture is surface polishing. Periodic polishing will help keep the furniture its original appearance. They produce polishes in two versions: aerosols or creams. Such furniture products are made on the basis of oils and include other components, due to which they obtain the following cleaning effect:

  1. Polishes easily remove dirt and give shine to the surface.
  2. Filling microcracks, the polish restores and evens out the structure of the material.
  3. Many tools add to their main function and the quality of the antistatic agent.
  4. Most polishes incorporate perfumes that give the furniture not only shine, but also a pleasant aroma.
  5. Using these tools, you protect the headset from dust, sunlight, water, and greasy and dirty fingerprints.

Important! Choose a polish taking into account the material of which the surface is made. For example, for varnished surfaces, a special polish is required, which does not dry the material, and for non-varnished furniture universal remedies are also suitable.

Wax based products

The purpose of these products is not only to remove impurities and give shine, but also to form a protective film of wax on the surface.

Wax-based products protect the wooden surface from water, create an antistatic coating, protect against mechanical damage and give a matte sheen to processed products.

Important! Such wood furniture care products can be used on top of or instead of polishes. For example, liquid wax must be applied to a clean surface for optimal results. To do this, the surface is cleaned with a cleaner, and the wax is applied with a clean soft cloth and left for several minutes, after which it is necessary to polish the surface with a little effort with a clean soft cloth.

Dry Cleaning Products

This product removes dust well and removes static electricity from the varnish layer. Basically, dry cleaners look like polishing wipes. In the absence of special tools, you can use a dry flannelette rag, and for carved furniture with a soft round brush.
