Panel Properties

Before gluing plastic panels to a wall or ceiling, it is very useful to understand their properties and technical characteristics. Then immediately it becomes clear which glue is suitable, and which is better to refuse. The plastic coating for the walls has a lot of advantages:

  • they tolerate moisture well, they can be washed quite calmly;
  • do not deteriorate from temperature extremes;
  • Do not crack in the cold;
  • they are strong enough and well tolerate pressure, not particularly strong blows;
  • such panels are quite difficult to scratch, so you can sometimes wash even with a hard washcloth;
  • ultraviolet does not harm them;
  • at a price they are available even to people with low income.

Since plastic panels have such remarkable properties, they are used where other types of coating very quickly lose their attractive appearance:

  • in bathrooms and toilets;
  • in saunas;
  • on the external walls of brick and wooden houses.

How are they fastened?

Do I need glue for plastic panels? In fact, they are attached in several ways:

  • mechanical - mounted on a crate of metal, plastic or wood;
  • directly to the finishing base.

The first method is more complicated and requires more time, but glue is not needed for it. In the second case, glue is needed, but the work is faster, and even a beginner repairman can cope with it. For this reason, fixing to the finishing base has become much more popular.

What do you want to get?

Having wondered how to stick plastic panels to the wall, think about what result you need and take into account some very simple considerations:

  • Do not glue PVC panels where there are too large temperature differences - when installing a sauna, it is better to choose a different method of fastening.
  • Cutting plastic is best with a grinder.
  • If the temperature in the room you are repairing is different from the temperature at which the panels were previously stored, the material should lie down a bit at the repair site.
  • If there is a need to make additional wall insulation, it is better to fix the plastic sheathing on the frame, and fill the gap with a heat insulator.
  • If the panels are mounted horizontally, the docking groove is directed down so that water does not accumulate under the coating.
  • In any case, you should take care of the air circulation, for which there are approximately 0.7 cm wide gaps on the wall above and below.

Choose glue

Now you can try to figure out how to glue plastic panels to the wall. Of course, compositions for wallpaper or tile are not suitable if the packaging does not indicate that they can be used for plastic. In any case, the glue should have some properties:

  1. Must set fast.
  2. When it hardens, it must remain transparent.
  3. The panels should sit tight and not peel off at the slightest touch, that is, you need a composition that gives high strength joints.
  4. The glue must tolerate temperature extremes, high humidity, as well as exposure to aggressive substances (for example, acids and alkalis).
  5. Need a composition that is insensitive to sunlight.
  6. It is desirable that the connection lasts long enough.

If the question arose of what to glue the PVC panels in the bathroom, the usual answer is to the crate. However, this technology is not so simple and takes a little longer than simple gluing. There is one more minus - the wall thickness inevitably grows, and the free space, accordingly, decreases. That is, this method is good for spacious rooms. But pasting such negative effects does not, and the main thing is to choose the right materials.

Important! It should not be allowed that, when decorating the interior, compositions are used that, when in contact with the environment, emit harmful substances, that is, the glue should be environmentally friendly.

Liquid Nails

All of these qualities have building glue, which was called "liquid nails." It is suitable for almost all building materials, including finishing plastic. Before gluing PVC panels to the wall with “liquid nails”, let's look at the advantages of this material:

  • does not dissolve plastic;
  • does not emit harmful substances;
  • grabs very quickly.

What are liquid nails?

If, when answering the question of how to glue plastic panels to the wall, you gave preference to “liquid nails,” knowledge of what they are good and bad will not hurt. This is a universal glue that perfectly connects:

  • wood;
  • plastic;
  • glass;
  • metal;
  • drywall.

The composition usually includes several components:

  • synthetic rubber;
  • polymers;
  • fillers.

Types of Liquid Nails

In construction stores you can find several types of this glue. But upon closer examination, it turns out that any of them belongs to one of two varieties:

  • neopropylene, it is neoprene;
  • acrylic.

Acrylic

Neoprene “liquid nails” are made on the basis of organic solvents, with acrylic the base is water. Acrylic “liquid nails” are more suitable for interior decoration, since they practically do not interact with the environment, respectively - they do not emit substances harmful to humans during the decay. In addition, water-based formulations do not irritate the sense of smell - the smell, if any, is very weak. However, since water is used as the basis, such adhesives are not very good at humidity, so it is not worth using them, for example, in bathrooms.

Neoprene adhesive

If you need to stick PVC panels very quickly, it’s hard to think of anything better than neoprene “liquid nails”. Such compositions have many advantages:

  • give excellent adhesion of surfaces;
  • insensitive to temperature extremes;
  • can be used in rooms with high humidity.

If we talk about the shortcomings, that is, one rather significant - this glue smells very strong, the smell disappears only after a couple of days.

Important! Neoprene is quite aggressive, so when working with it, safety precautions should be followed, it is best to use a respirator and protective gloves.

For which walls?

Before buying this or that composition, familiarize yourself with the marking - you will find out for which premises the composition is intended for:

  • 601- for internal surfaces;
  • 901 - for external;
  • 915 - for rooms with high humidity.

Brands & Brands

When choosing glue for plastic panels, pay attention to such brands:

  • Mitr;
  • “Emfikol 34012A”;
  • “Crystal moment”;
  • Kleibert 536.

MitreFix is specially designed for this type of coating. It gives a strong grip, dries quickly and perfectly tolerates moisture and low temperatures. But you can use some universal compounds. For example:

  • Adhesive Emfikol 34012A perfectly tolerates high humidity, which allows it to be used even in bathrooms.
  • “Crystal Moment” is practically insensitive to temperature changes and more or less well withstands a large amount of water vapor in the air.
  • Kleibert 536 is considered the most environmentally friendly, and in addition, it instantly sets.

Packaging

In order to glue the plastic panels, you will need a construction gun. You can, of course, apply glue simply by squeezing it, but it is both inconvenient and wasteful. As a rule, glue for such panels is sold in tubes. You don’t need to breed anything before work - just cut off the tip and install a special cap, which you will find right there in the package. After that, the tube is inserted into the construction gun at a right angle, and you can work.

Cooking the walls

Now we will discuss how to glue the plastic panel to the wall in the kitchen or in the bathroom, if you decide not to do the crate there. First you need to examine what you will glue. The wall should be:

  • as smooth as possible;
  • no visible defects;
  • durable.

Accordingly - surface preparation is as follows:

  1. Remove all old coating - tile, wallpaper, paint.
  2. If the plaster falls in places, remove fragments that do not hold well, leave only those that cannot be repelled.
  3. Close up cracks and chips.
  4. Level the wall.
  5. Sand it with sandpaper so that there are no noticeable depressions and protrusions.
  6. Apply a layer of soil - this will help provide better traction.
  7. Wait until the primer has dried, after which another layer can be applied.
  8. After that, you can start gluing, and if you are not very confident in yourself, it will be useful to mark the wall with at least several vertical or horizontal lines.

If the irregularities are so significant that they cannot be aligned, it is not worth putting the panels on the glue. It is better to use another way - installing the frame, that is, a classic crate. In this case, there is no need to make markup. Quite often, only the bottom of the walls is paneled with panels. If you want to decorate the entire surface, first install the ceiling plinth, drive the first tile into its groove, and in this case you need to glue it from top to bottom.

Important! In rooms with high humidity, soil in which there are antifungal additives can be very useful.

We paste the walls

So, the wall and panels are already prepared. You can start gluing, but in order to make the connection strong, it is very useful to degrease both the wall and each panel. In what order to do this is completely unimportant. You just need to wipe the surfaces that will be in contact with alcohol or acetone, and you can glue.

You can apply glue in two ways:

  • continuous layer on the back of the panel;
  • pointwise.

Important! You can apply glue to the wall - usually this is done in the form of a grid. The option is indicated in the instructions for composition, and the recommendations should be carefully read:

  • In the first case, the glue will go away, of course, more, but the grip will turn out to be more reliable. This method is good if the wall is glued directly.
  • The composition is applied pointwise when there is a frame, while you need to carefully monitor that the composition falls into that part that will be attached to wooden or metal planks.

Then everything is extremely simple:

  1. Having spread the tile with glue, attach it to the wall and gently press, pressing, but not hard - it is best to start from the corner.
  2. Walk on the panel with a rubber roller.
  3. It is not necessary to wait until the panel dries, so go straight to the next tile.
  4. Seal joints with silicone sealant.
  5. When the entire surface is pasted over, you can fix the framing profile to make the room look more elegant.

Paste the ceiling

If the question arose of how to glue the PVC panels to the ceiling, the procedure will be almost the same as when decorating the walls. You will also need to remove the old cover and level the wall if possible. But there are some nuances. As a rule, the tile is glued directly to the surface, without any lathing:

  1. Before gluing PVC tiles, place a ceiling plinth.
  2. Set the panel with which you start to work in the groove.
  3. Press the panel and roll it with a roller.

Important! It’s better to paste the ceiling with an assistant who will give you the necessary materials and hedge while you are standing on the stepladder.
