Rid of squeaks

Next, you need to solve the problem with a creak. If a few creaks creak, then this problem can be easily solved with dowels and screws. If your flooring is on a cement-sand or concrete screed, the creak comes from the fact that the floorboard has come unstuck from its base and rubs against neighboring ones. It is impossible to get it without damaging it; therefore, it is necessary to perform the following actions:

  • Drill a hole in the creaky bar, and you need to grab a couple of centimeters of the base for the length of the dowel.
  • Insert the dowel into the finished hole and screw in the screw, drowning the hat in the wood.

Important! By self-tapping the plank with the floor firmly adheres and eliminates friction.

  • Coat the place where the fasteners are screwed in with putty.

Important! Squeaking occurs from aging wood, drying out, or stacking violations.

Elimination of a creak of the parquet laid on bituminous mastic, using a screed from the edges:

  1. Humidity in the room should be 40-60%.
  2. Remove the skirting boards and check the condition of the spacer wedges.
  3. Drive in tightly new spacer wedges every 50 cm.
  4. Knock them deeper every day and check the floor for creak.
  5. If the floor does not creak, install the skirting board in place.
  6. If the wedges cannot be driven deeper, and the coating continues to creak, it will have to be completely replaced.

Sealing cracks

Due to the drying of the wood, cracks appear. A narrow gap can be closed in the same way as minor defects - remove the layer of old varnish, putty, then apply a false joint and varnish.

Here's how to restore an old parquet that has slits more than 5 mm wide:

  1. Warm the strips with parallel installation for 10-20 minutes with a construction hairdryer until the smell of mastic appears.
  2. Tighten all planks with a hook and rubber mallet to form one large gap.
  3. Fill this gap with rivets and putty, driving it flush with the parquet.
  4. After the putty hardens, proceed to scraping, puttying of the area, applying false joints and varnishing.

Important! For parquet laid “herringbone”, this method is not suitable. Each gap requires an individual approach. They must be filled with small chips.

Swelling elimination

Such defects can be eliminated only in small areas, provided that there is little water on the floor.

Phased steps:

  1. Warm the swollen area with a construction hairdryer for about an hour and a half.
  2. Lay a thick cloth on the warm floor and distribute the oppression over the area. It is necessary that 10 kg of weight per 10 square meters. see. To do this, use books, bricks, buckets of water or other improvised tools that need to be installed on thick plywood or a 40 mm board.
  3. After 24 hours, check the condition of the coating. If the swollen area begins to fall off, repeat the procedure.

If this method does not bring tangible results, then save such a parquet will not work.

Important! It is necessary to carry out the above measures only immediately after swelling. If a week or more passes, there will be no result.

Loose planks

If in different places of the flooring there are swaying of individual floorboards, then there is the possibility of attaching them with small nails to neighboring floorboards. It is necessary to drown the studs a couple of millimeters inward and putty, and then sanded the surface and varnished.

If several neighboring planks are shaken, then they can be strengthened with the help of bamboo.

Stages of the work:

  1. Drill holes about 6 mm in diameter, 20 mm from the corners of the joints along the long sides.
  2. Drive the bamboo pieces tightly into the holes.
  3. Scratch the protruding section with a chisel.

Important! After a week, you can cycle, putty, grind and varnish the repaired area.
