Choice question

Before you install the mixer in the bathroom, you need to buy it. Whatever choice you make, remember one thing: you cannot save on faucets. The device’s working resource directly depends on its quality. The work needs to be done without unnecessary haste, not in a hurry, otherwise the whole system will quickly fail.

When choosing a mixer, pay attention, in addition to a beautiful design, to such factors:

  • Product weight. A quality mixer will not be easy, because the basis of its reliability is the thickness of the metal.
  • The material of manufacture. The most common materials are silumin and brass.

Important! Silumin is cheaper and lightweight. The basis of this material is aluminum-silicon alloy, it is not very strong. Brass is a solid durable alloy, but its cost is much higher.

  • Technical specifications. When buying a faucet, make sure that it matches the installation location in the bathroom.

Placement above the bath

It is believed that the optimal height of the faucet above the tank is 20 cm. However, this is a conditional value, and the actual height of the placement may slightly differ from the standard:

  • Before you put the faucet in the bathroom, check how conveniently the tap is placed.
  • If you install the mixer in the shower, the distance from the bottom of the cabin to the tap is about 1.2 m.
  • Calculate the distance from the tap to the edge of the bath. Especially if you are going to turn the tap of the mixer from the sink and back.
  • Factors such as the presence of various accessories, for example, water softeners, also affect the height of the device.

Tools and dismantling

To install the mixer in the bathroom you will need:

  • Large pliers.
  • A set of hex keys.
  • Two screwdrivers: with a flat and a cross sting.
  • Gas and open-end wrenches.
  • FUM tape or tow for reeling connections.

Important! Turn off the water supply before changing the mixer. Moreover, it is necessary to block not only the main water supply, but also hot water. This applies to houses where water is heated using a boiler or gas water heater.

Drain the tap and then carefully unscrew it so that the thread on the fitting remains intact.

Important! If the thread is damaged, then a very laborious and difficult job is to change the fitting.

After the old faucet has been removed, clean the fitting from paint residues, dirt and residues from the old winding.

Installing a faucet in the bathroom - procedure

Most of the mixers are sold disassembled, so before installation, you need to assemble the structure together.

Important! When buying a kit, make sure that it is fully equipped. The box should contain such items:

  • Gander.
  • Shower head with hose.
  • The main unit.
  • Decorative lights.
  • Eccentrics.
  • Rubber gaskets.

Each part must be packed in cloth or cellophane. Remember to check if the thread on the eccentric mounts is intact.

In order to assemble the faucet, attach a gander and a shower head with a hose to the main unit. This will not be particularly difficult.

Important! When assembling the crane, do not use keys or tighten the nuts.

The algorithm for installing the mixer in the bathroom with your own hands is as follows:

  • Insert the eccentrics very carefully into the fittings on the wall (they are left over from the crane that you removed).
  • Screw the main unit onto the eccentrics. If the winding of the block on both sides occurs without problems, then you have set the eccentrics correctly.
  • Wind the FUM tape onto the eccentrics. If there is no tape, then it can be replaced by an uncoiling tow with Unipak paste.

Important! As you can see, first you need to install the cam without winding. Use the winding only after making sure that everything is done without flaws.

  • After you have verified that everything is done correctly, remove the main unit. Mount the decorative cover to mask the place where the mixer is connected to the water supply.
  • Screw the block back, not forgetting the winding. For denser shrinkage, use the gaskets provided in the compression nuts.
  • Tighten the nuts with a wrench, not particularly applying force.
  • Check the operation of the mixer by turning on the supply of cold and hot water.

How to fix the mixer on a new wall?

The case of installing a new mixing structure after dismantling the old one is considered above. How to install a faucet in the bathroom of a new home? Installation of the crane is preceded by such works as laying supply pipes, tiling the walls, and installing fittings. To perform this work, preliminary calculations are required:

  • Measure the spacing between the fittings (15 cm).
  • The extreme point is flush with the wall.
  • Fittings must be placed on the same level. The height of their location should be acceptable for subsequent installation of the crane.

Fittings are installed after piping is completed and plasterboard crate is created.

Important! When using drywall, solder the fitting so that it extends approximately 25 mm outside the crate. The exit point is fixed with profiles or mounting brackets. The height of the protrusion when using plaster, as a rule, is 17 mm.
