How to clean a vacuum cleaner with a standard dust bag?

Units with a traditional dust bag do not require frequent maintenance. For the equipment to work properly, it is enough:

  1. Regularly remove accumulated debris from the bag.
  2. It is periodically necessary to completely clean: wipe the case, clean the hose, filters to avoid engine clogging, and also in order to prevent bacteria from starting in a favorable warm environment of the appliance, which could ruin our lives.

If you use just such a machine for cleaning, read the brief instructions for its maintenance provided by the manufacturer. You can clean the vacuum cleaner according to the following scheme proposed by our experts.

Device preparation:

  1. Clean the vacuum cleaner after disconnecting it from the mains.
  2. Unscrew the hose.
  3. Open the casing.
  4. Remove all filters from the unit:
    • Dust chamber bag.
    • The filter that protects the motor (located at the entrance to the engine compartment).
    • Final cleaning filter (at the outlet of the vacuum cleaner).
    • Additional filters (some models are equipped with them).

How to clean the vacuum cleaner filter:

  1. Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the dust chamber. Especially carefully it is necessary to clean the vacuum cleaner in the corners of the chamber from dust accumulation.
  2. Plug in the vacuum cleaner and blow out the engine compartment with air. Dust and dirt from the engine compartment will be removed faster if you tilt the unit from side to side during purging. Also, as an option, you can adjust the power of the device by slightly covering and opening with your hand the hole designed for the hose.

Important! Blow out the vacuum cleaner not in a residential area (entrance or on the street). Accumulated dust will be blown out in the engine compartment by a powerful air vortex.

  1. When purging is complete, inspect unit filters. If they become unusable or are heavily soiled and worn out, replace them with new ones.
  2. Replace the filters in the vacuum cleaner. Filters must always be dry, otherwise they will stop passing air and dust will stick to them. It may even grow mold.
  3. Place the dust bag in the appropriate compartment (if necessary, replace the bag with a new one).If the model of the vacuum cleaner is equipped with a fabric bag, you can not only clean it from debris, but also wash it using washing powder.

We disassemble additional elements

Additional accessories include:

  1. Turbo brush (if present).
  2. Nozzles.
  3. Brushes.
  4. Hose.

Important! The main goal is to remove foreign objects and debris. Cleaning the turbo brush involves removing lint, thread, and coiled hair from the roller. In order for the functional nozzle to cope with its duties, it is not necessary to clean it after each cleaning, but it should not be delayed with cleaning. Read more about the operating rules of this accessory in our post "Turbo brush for vacuum cleaner".

Clean the turbo brush:

  1. Remove the nozzle from the telescopic handle of the unit hose.
  2. Gently slide the latch to the side and remove the protective cover.
  3. Use a damp sponge to remove dust and dirt from the plastic surface.
  4. Pile, hair wound on a roller, cut with scissors and remove with tweezers or a brush.
  5. Clean dust and dirt on the brush blades.
  6. After all the manipulations, close the lid.

Thoroughly clean the turbo brush 2 times a year. To do this, it must be disassembled by following these steps:

  1. Remove the cover.
  2. Turn the nozzle upside down.
  3. Unscrew 6 bolts with a screwdriver.
  4. Wipe the 2 halves of the brush gently with a clean cloth. In hard to reach places, remove dirt with a vacuum cleaner pipe.
  5. Remove dirt, wool, hair from all brush mechanisms with scissors and tweezers.
  6. Reassemble the brush in the reverse order.

Important! If pets live in the house, carry out preventive cleaning of the turbo brush with disassembling the nozzle once every 3-4 months.

We clean the remaining additional elements:

  1. Put the dirty, blackened hose in the bath with water so that it is soaked from the outside and inside (if there are contacts or switches on the accessory, this cannot be done).
  2. Wipe the hose with a soft soapy sponge on the outside.
  3. If something is stuck inside, connect the hose to the outlet and blow it by turning on the vacuum cleaner. You can use for this purpose a long piece of wire.
  4. Be sure to wipe the inside and the edges of the hole to which the hose is attached.

Important! The plastic elements of the nozzles should also not be forgotten if you decide to clean the vacuum cleaner - wipe them with a damp cloth or rinse under running water. Before collecting the vacuum cleaner, dry all wet parts, and wipe the body dry.

Advice:

In order for the trash bag to become clogged as rarely as possible and you only have to wonder from time to time how to clean the vacuum cleaner, follow these rules:

  1. Do not use a vacuum cleaner to clean construction debris when repairing an apartment.
  2. Install only high-quality bags and filters designed specifically for this type of unit in the vacuum cleaner. Alteration, manual adjustment, trimming of bags and filters from completely different vacuum cleaners is unacceptable.
  3. Make sure that there is no rupture of the bag when cleaning glass, nails, smoldering cigarette butts.
  4. Please note that the rubber seals are always in place.
  5. Replaceable bags must be thrown away once a month and a half. They are not intended for reuse.
  6. Do not forget that the protective motor filter and bag must be present in the unit (insert them into place after the next cleaning).

Features of cleaning various types of vacuum cleaners

If you decide to give preference to more advanced models of the vacuum cleaner, before cleaning the vacuum cleaner, consider these recommendations.

Vacuum cleaner with dust container

Clean the container vacuums every time after cleaning. In some models, it is enough to remove and discard the debris accumulated in the bowels of the plastic container, and then rinse the container with water.

Important! To clean the vacuum cleaner well, also wash the thinner filter sponges and plates present in the system. This will help maximize the life of the unit.

Vacuum cleaner with water filter

Innovative units - vacuum cleaners with an aquafilter practically do not require leaving. A device of this type is produced by many world famous companies. The principle of operation of this technique is that the intake air flows through a hose into a water tank, large particles of dirt and dust settle in the water, and smaller ones are sent to the filter.

Important! The container in this type of vacuum cleaner is simply rinsed, and the filter is vacuumed or washed, then dried and replaced. So, if you gave preference to such a model, you not only greatly facilitated the work of cleaning itself, but also the task of how to clean the vacuum cleaner.

Vacuum cleaner with separator

To date, separator vacuum cleaners are not produced by many companies, in particular Pro-Aqua. Our compatriots choose products of this type, since these models harmoniously combine quality and cost:

  1. Vacuum cleaners of a separator type practically do not need care, since in fact they do not have filters that must be regularly cleaned and replaced with new ones, which means that you do not have to spend money on the purchase of components.
  2. In addition, household units of this type in the process of their work not only eliminate pollution of any type, but also purify and moisturize the air in the room.

Important! The principle of operation of the vacuum cleaner with the separator is as follows: the intake air flows through the hose into the water tank, in which the working separator creates high pressure. Particles of dust and dirt are deposited in the water during the cleaning process, and to clean the vacuum cleaner, it is enough to simply pour water from the tank, after which the device is ready for use again.
