Washing machine pump

In the washing machine, the only device designed to force the water to drain into the drain is a pump or a pump. It works very simply. When the impeller rotates, a centrifugal force is created. This leads to the appearance of discharged pressure in the cochlea of the pump, as a result - water is drawn from the tank. But it happens that the pump for the washing machine breaks. Consider the main breakdowns and how to do it yourself.

Pump purpose

Water flows into a modern washing machine by gravity, but its removal occurs using a drain pump. It is activated upon command to remove the dirty cleaning solution and works until the liquid is completely pumped out.

On the discharge side of the pump, there is a protective grill or a fluff filter to protect the internal working space (snail). Small items of clothing can get into it and cause damage to the impeller, which guarantees big problems.

Important! The pump of the washing machine in the process of cope with a heavy load, because it takes part in almost all cycles: washing, rinsing, spinning, draining. That is why it is of such great importance.

What are pump failures?

Based on the wide range of tasks that the pump performs for the washing machine, it is not surprising that its breakdowns can be different - both in terms of complexity and maintainability. Consider the most common causes of malfunctions.

Problems in the electrical part

In this case, either the coil breaks or a short circuit occurs. The pump breaks so very rarely. The cause of the breakdown is that water got to the pump from another node.

Or maybe a foreign object caused the impeller to jam, which leads to overheating and short circuiting.

To prevent this from happening again, it makes sense:

  1. Install surge protectors for household appliances.
  2. Put the right sockets in the bathroom.

Mechanical issues

It happens that the impeller of the drain pump warps or even separates under the influence of a heavy load. After a breakdown by the impeller, the pump or motor housings are touched, which eventually leads to jamming.

If the machine does not drain the water well after washing, the cause may be the deterioration of the sleeve on the drain pump.

Important! Most often, the washing machine pump is not repaired, but replaced with a new one.

DIY drain pump replacement

Most importantly, in most modern washing machines, replacing the pump does not require disassembling or removing the walls. You will carry out all the work through the bottom:

  1. We disconnect the unit from the power supply and block the access of water.
  2. The equipment is laid on its side. At the same time, the pump of the washing machine should be at the top. In order to avoid damage to the coatings, it is better to lay something under the repaired unit.
  3. The bottom panel is removed, and a click is heard. If necessary, unscrew the bolts.
  4. Now the pump and body are disconnected. There are screws near the drain valve that need to be unscrewed.
  5. The pump is pressed on the outside so that it is withdrawn.
  6. Next, the wires are disconnected. To do this, the chip is pulled off the pump.
  7. A container is being prepared to drain the remaining water. After - the clamps on the drain pipe coming from the tank and on the drain hose are loosened.

Important! To unclip the clamps, it is usually sufficient to use pliers or a screwdriver. Great effort is not required here.

  1. Above the prepared container, the pipe and drain hose are removed.
  2. If the washing machine pump is being repaired and the cochlea is being replaced, then it is installed back in the same order.

Important! To prevent other problems with the washing machine, it makes sense to regularly perform prevention recommendations.

What to do if the snail remains in good condition and does not need to be changed?

  1. The pump is turned off - three bolts are removed or the latches snap off.
  2. Then the separation of the cochlea and the pump is carried out.
  3. Before installing a new pump, dirt is carefully removed from the cochlea.
  4. Particularly carefully you need to clean the seat, to which the pump will then join.
  5. Then again, everything is assembled into a single whole.

Important! Perhaps in order to eliminate the imbalance of the washing machine, its failure or other system errors, it will also be useful for you to read about how to calculate laundry weight.
