How does a boiler work?

The water heater case, at first glance, looks pretty impressive, but in fact the principle of operation of the device resembles the usual Electric kettle. Its main components are a thermostat and a tubular type electric heater, placed in the housing. There is also a magnesium anode, which most often fails. TEN is a fechral wire located inside a copper pipe filled with a dielectric.

Water from the water supply system is an excellent medium for the exchange of ions between the shell of copper and other metal parts of the tank. In essence, water gradually destroys the metal parts of the boiler. To slow down these processes, there is a magnesium rod in the tank. In fact, it is used as an ion donor. When the rod breaks over time, the metal walls of the tank are subject to corrosion.

Important! The disadvantage of Termeks tanks is that a slight scratch is enough to cause corrosion to break out. The surface of the donor rod is small here.

Before talking about the possibilities of repairing Termex water heaters with our own hands, we will find out the following nuances.

When do I need to contact a specialist?

  • The tank is under warranty. When contacting a service center, do not remove the original sticker. This may be a reason for refusing free repair.
  • Emergency trip in a new device. This defect is characteristic of small-size boilers “Termeks”. Only a specialist can help here.
  • Failure of settings in the thermostat. The electronic “filling” of the device sometimes resets the settings in the event of a sudden power outage.

Important! As a rule, repairing a hot water device in a service center is not a cheap pleasure. The cost of repair and diagnostics on average costs about 30% of the cost of the boiler. It is possible to avoid expensive repairs if the boiler is installed correctly and anti-corrosion measures are taken in time.

When is a tank repair required?

The first sign of a device malfunction is a lack of water heating or very weak heating. Device repair will be needed in the following situations:

  • There is no signal of power supply, there is no current in the electrical circuit.
  • There is power, the indicator is on, but there is no water heating. This indicates a breakdown of ten.
  • Thermostat failure.
  • The appearance of fistulas or leaks.
  • Wear on the anode.

Important! Self-repair does not require so much: an assembled spare heater with gaskets in the kit, seals and a magnesium electrode. To unwind the fasteners, you need keys. To clean the heater from scale, you need a brush.

Repair algorithm, or how to disassemble a Termex water heater for DIY repair:

  1. If power is not supplied, check the condition of the power outlet and the integrity of the electrical circuit as a whole. The reason may be a power outage. A current indicator and basic care are your best helpers in this situation. The reason for the lack of power can be: blocking from a “dry” turn on, poor insulation, RCD trip.
  2. Water does not heat up. To check the heater, remove the cover. This will allow you to access the terminals of the heater. Now, using the tester, check its serviceability. If there is voltage at the terminals, but the heater does not heat up, you need to change the heating element. To do this, disconnect the wires, remove the temperature sensors and unscrew the connection of the platform with the heating anode and the heater. Simultaneously with the replacement of the heater, it is advisable to clean the magnesium electrode or replace it.

Important! Before disconnecting the wires, save the order of the wires on any media. This will help you avoid connecting errors.

  1. If the tank began to leak, then most likely the problem is a violation of the integrity of the gaskets. Replace them or rewind on flanged joints. Sometimes a leak occurs after replacing a heater. In this case, reinstall the heating element. If the cause of the leak is corrosion of the storage tank, the device cannot be repaired.
  2. Does the water not heat up when the heater is in good condition? It is recommended to check the thermostat.

Important! If the boiler is out of order and you need to choose a new device, we suggest using our rated water heaters.

Breakdown care and prevention

Hard water is the worst enemy of hot water appliances. Salts of calcium and magnesium contained in tap water contribute to the appearance of sediment on the surface of the heater. Therefore, the heater once a year must be cleaned with a solution of citric or acetic acid, which destroys the precipitate.

Important! To extend the service life and to avoid damage to water heaters, use filters for water purification in the apartment.

A good preventive measure against the appearance of scale is the use of special water softeners. In addition, a mandatory measure is to install a filter on the water supply line to remove suspended solids. If you set up the prophylaxis correctly, then the question of how to clean the Termex water heater will not worry you often.
