What materials are bath shops made of?

It is necessary to take into account that it is not possible to make a bench for a bathhouse with your own hands from any kind of wood. It is necessary that the material is dense, without knots, has a low thermal conductivity. That is why shops are often made from strong wood species such as oak, linden, poplar, birch. The main characteristics of these materials allow you to use furniture in a bathhouse in conditions of high humidity and temperature.

Before you begin, familiarize yourself with the main advantages of the most suitable materials:

  • It is easiest to work with linden, in addition, during heating, it begins to release beneficial substances into the air.
  • Products made of larch can last a long time, but they cost a lot.
  • Light strong maple wood does not crack under the influence of moisture, has low thermal conductivity.
  • Oak benches can decorate the bath. This is an ideal option for people who can afford to spend a lot of money on arranging this room. In addition, such furniture pleases with its durability and beauty.
  • Often bath furniture is made from aspen. It is cheap, able to create a special microclimate. But this material has one significant drawback - over time, it begins to rot from the inside.
  • Abashi wood grows in moisture and heat, so it does not lose its structure and color for a long time. This is good stuff, but not everyone is priced.

Important! The steam room benches are often made of hardwood. Coniferous woods begin to release tar at high temperatures, which greatly burns the skin. For washing facilities, larch and pine are the best option, since they only become harder under the influence of moisture.

Varieties of benches for a bath

Before you make a bench in the bath with your own hands, you need to decide on the most suitable option. The fact is that the design features and dimensions of the shops directly depend on the main purpose and area of the room, the shape of other furniture, the number of people who visit the bathhouse at the same time.

Popular varieties of bath benches:

  1. Bunk shops. They are equipped with steam rooms, so that when visiting a person can choose the level of heating of the air. The design is installed near a blank wall, especially if it is assumed that a large number of people are present in the steam room at the same time. Sometimes several such structures are mounted at once.
  2. Three-tier benches. Suitable for spacious steam rooms, so that from the top tier to the ceiling there is still a distance of at least 1.2 m, so that it is convenient to sit on them.
  3. Wide shelves. This is the best option for small baths, because it is enough to leave space below for air circulation.
  4. Mobile models. They are placed in the waiting room.
  5. Small benches without back. They are used as footrests.

Benchs for the bath must meet the following requirements:

  • Products must not be painted or varnished.
  • Furniture can only be processed with safe antiseptics that do not emit hazardous fumes when heated.
  • Benches are forbidden to be located close to the wall, there must be a gap for draining water.
  • The wood must be sanded carefully so that a person does not get injured by a splinter or hit an acute angle.

How to make your own portable bench for a bath?

Now we will give another master class on how to make a bench in the bathhouse with our own hands. Drawings that can be found on the Internet are more often associated with the manufacture of portable structures. These are classic simple models with four legs and a board seat. You can make such a bench of any size, then use it both in the dressing room and in the steam room.

You will need to work:

  • Boards 40 cm wide and 5 cm long.
  • Wooden beam for legs, crossbars and struts with a cross section of 50 by 50 mm.

Follow the instructions below to create a shop:

  1. From the board, cut off the part according to the length of the seat. Grind it well to avoid splintering. Then round the corners of the boards.
  2. Cut 4 legs 50 cm long from the beam, then 2 more cross-pieces for fixing the legs of 40 cm, 2 crossbars for inserts into the legs of 30 cm, 2 struts of 40 cm.
  3. Sand all parts to smoothness.
  4. To insert the crossbars, cut out insets measuring 25 to 50 mm right in the middle of the legs.
  5. Screw two legs to each crossbar with self-tapping screws. Since this connection will not come into contact with the body, metal screws will not be able to harm, you only have to protect them from moisture.
  6. Using a self-tapping screw, screwed from the end, and glue, fasten the crossbar in the grooves of the legs.
  7. Screw the seat to the cross bars with screws. Drown their heads in wood, close all openings with special putty.
  8. The struts will make the structure more stable, so they must be fixed to the crossbar and the seat with self-tapping screws. File the slopes at an angle of 45 degrees, so that it is more convenient to connect the ends. Fix one of them on the seat, the second on the lower bar. Saw off parts protruding from the cross member.
  9. Treat the finished shop with a special water-repellent compound.
